It looks like we need to start applauding more organizations than just Matchroom for promoting the game we love. I think this might be the biggest thing since the IPT.

I saw this and it reminded me of the NBL. (Sort of, to the person typing up a lecture.) These two companies know what they’re doing, and I wish them well.

I think it is bigger than the NBL. They are having 5 events with $25-50k added each and $100k added at the World 10 Ball Championship. The added money stood out to me. Maybe there are more of those events than I realize.

So the World Championship next March/April is 10-Ball. What game are they playing in the 5 events this year?

From the link:
"The format of each event has been devised to create drama and excitement. Each match is two sets, race to four. If the set score is tied at 1-1, a spot shot shootout determines the winner. Stage 1 is double elimination to the final quarter of the field. Stage 2 is single elimination."

"The equipment used for each event, with the exception of the Diamond Las Vegas Open, will be Predator tables covered with Predator Arcadia Reserve Cloth, Predator Arcos II Balls, Predator Arena Lights, Predator Bridges and Predator 1080 Pure Chalk. The Diamond Las Vegas Open will be played on Diamond Pro-Am tables."

Interesting format, and at least we get to see some of these predator tables in action in NA.

Just in case someone is wondering I already did the leg work to register so here's the entry fee:

Unfortunately for me, after currency conversion and the related expenses I would endure to travel and stay in the area. I'd be well north of $1k for this event. I write my own checks and the likelyhood of me cashing out is slim to none, so it looks like I have some convenient excuses to take a pass... ;)

Now if an event was was near the Ontario border it would be a different matter.

How far is Battle Creek from Toronto?

This is interesting.

Sponsor Logos and Patches
Players may wear up to three logos on playing apparel (“player’s logos”). However, a logo may not exceed 10 square inches. The player must submit to CueSports International (CSI), before his or her first match, samples of all sponsor logos for approval. CSI reserves the authority to disallow any sponsor logos for any reason, including but not limited to not submitting logo for approval or conflicting with any other event, pool league or broadcast sponsor. Additionally, CSI reserves the right to require any player to display event sponsor logos on the player’s apparel.

The field will be limited to Predator sponsored players if CSI/Predator requires them to wear a Predator logo or disallows the use of sponsor logos "for any reason". For example, Shane is sponsored by Cuetec and Dynaspheres. They will not allow Shane to wear a Predator logo. We shall see. I hope they don't try to run this with an iron fist.

Pool has a LONG history of shooting itself in the foot. Why change now??

They finally announced it. Been on the WPA calendar for months.

Hopefully they expand the slots at the WPA World 10 Ball unlike the inaugural Predator one a couple of years ago that was limited to 64. Make it the real "World Pool Championships" and not that 9 ball sh!t.

About time. At the elite levels of play 9ball is a joke. 10b is much better imo.
Its not even close the quality of a match watching 10 ball vs that 9 ball crap. Too many people just gobsmacked by Matchroom. "Fall in line".

Reminds me of the WPBA and their strategy of pairing pro events with amateur events to share logistical expenses and draw a convenient audience.

It is a good sign for men’s professional pool. Kudos to Predator and CSI for getting this together. The surprising thing is the lack of the “BCA” name in any of that. Did they miss the boat in contributing to this endeavor? It kind of makes the selling off of the BCAPL shortsighted in terms of now playing a larger role in the development of men’s professional pool.
