Friends, I just saw one interesting page at
Predator's website - the Predator Ikon pool cues!

Wrote a brief post on it and all.

Much thanks for looking, everyone!

Link is here, friends!

:)

WOW this line features some of the ugliest pool cues that Predator ever put out...

IMO, the Ikon 7, 4 and 9 are the most beautiful of the lot.
And for those who want simplicity in their cues,
the Ikon 1, 2, and 3 are perfect.

:)

The only nice in these (besides the plane 1 - 3) is the IKON8 but for $1349 retail I can get a much nicer custom cue....

That leather also doesn't look like of high quality and I think it's a bad move to go with leather for the whole line, what about all the customers who like linen better.

BTW, here is a better pictures of the cues

I like the IKON7, but as skor mentioned, in this price range you get an better hitting custom.

There will be a lot of people excited about the new wrap that is on the IKON series. It is much like the Ultra Leather that we used some time ago on the P2's. It has really great feel and texture and moisture absorbing qualities. Linen has never really been a good choice for wrap, it provides very little protection, grip and tends to deteriorate much quicker.

So you mean that this is not real leather as well?
Why use the word leather in a synthetic product again like Predator did with the Ultra leather, this is just misleading!!!

These cues look great.

As a proud owner of a few 'custom' high end cues (Jacoby, Carolina CC, and Andy Gilbert) I still would not discount these new line of Predator cues. To this day, my trusty Predator 4K7 always goes with me... Everywhere. Period. Given a choice out of all my cues, the 4K7 is the one I always go back to. I don't mean to ruffle any feathers on the topic of custom vs. production cues ...but that statement I saw earlier about ....better start looking at custom cues if you're going to spend this much ...is complete nonsense.

The Ikon 8 is stunning. It'll probably be my next cue. Can't wait to hit with it.

@Suaro

I own a BK2, 4k2 and LE XI and I tested a lot of other cues. Still did not found anything better for me then the Predators....
But then I played with a Blud SP and was surprised about the great feeling.
After some days playing with the Blud, I replaced my player with it (The LE XI) and my breaker also. (Was not a easy step, because i owned about 7 Z shafts ...). Now I use the Blud for breaking and a TS SP for playing.

In between i played some games with the LE XI and a Z shaft :yikes: no solid hit and the Z shaft was extremely vibrating....was this my cue i loved that much ??

I ordered a shaft with ivory ferrule for the LE XI to see if I get a better (Solid) hit -> Yes, now I can change to that cue again without being scared *gggg*

Tha shaftwoodquality on customs is mostly much better and low deflection is not that important from my point of view. I think 70% will not recognize the deflection difference between a low deflection shaft and a good custom shaft with a similar taper.

So why is this complete nonsense ?

All I was saying was that the idea of looking for a custom cue due to the price of the Ikon Predator doesn't seem logical.

Try the cue. If you like it, great. If not, look for something else.

The statement implied (to me) that custom cues are better than production cues...and that's simply not (always) the case. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I've played with many production cues (Schon's, Predators,etc...) that far surpassed $4k custom cues in terms of hit, feel, and yes, even looks.

Not trying to create conflict here. Guess I'm tired of hearing "...man you have so many great cues...why are you using a Predator 4k7 as your main player?"

Each to their own I guess.

I totally agree with the statement that custom cues are not always better then production cues.

And that's also true not just for playability but sometimes also to construction and finish....

BUT if we are just talking about construction, hit and playability then why get the IKON8 for $1349 when the IKON1 is constructed the same (C4 technology) and will feel, hit and play exactly like the IKON8 for $600.

I do have a problem with paying over a $1000 for a production cue.
But if I was then I rather get a $1000 Schon/Jacoby/Pechauer/Mezz and put a Predator shaft on them.

The logic is I don't feel like paying over a $1000 for a cue and go to the local pool hall and see 20 other guys have the same cue.....
For that kind of money I would rather get something more unique.

I'm a big Predator fan when it comes to their shafts and I've owned Predator products for longer then most average players, since 1998 when I got my first Predator cue.
But I've felt for quite a while now (since the 3K line) that buying a full Predator cue is a waist of money, get any cue you would like at any price range and just slap a Predator shaft on it....
The only Predator cues that is worth getting are the sneaky petes.

Is it just me, or do these cues look very familiar? The 5-9 all look like cues from other lines. The 7 is... well, we'll call it an homage to Mezz and the 5 looks quite a bit like an ugly Joss I've seen on some sites. I'm not even going to talk about the prices, as they do enough damage speaking for themselves.

I'll have to agree that the first three look like previous Predator cues with the exception of the 'special' wrap.
The Ikon1 looks like the 5K1
The Ikon2 looks like the 4K2 with a set of double rings near the butt cap, and curly instead of birdseye maple.
The Ikon3 looks like the 5K3.

And the rest can be an eyesore

Get a Mezz

those are some seriously ugly cues. did mike sigel help design that turquoise one? :grin-devilish:

i'd rather go with a Mezz MPC2 series cues. They have nicer looking butts but us the predator 314-2 shaft with the Mezz joint. (instead of the Mezz shafts)

i like the 704 as it's classic looking. and no turquoise.
