I will never understand why anybody would buy a Cog just to make it play like a Predator. People buy Cog's because they play like a Cog. Cog's are Cog's for a reason.
Whatever. To each his own I guess...

Great point! Why not give the shaft that was designed for the cue a chance?

Same goes for most custom cues. I cant see how an after market, 3rd party production shaft will play better then the shafts the maker made for that specific cue.

Yeah. F-ing crazy. Might as well get a Lucasi or a Bud Light Butt if you're going to but a predator shaft on it.

Goofiest thing I've ever heard....

Been using a 314-2 for about 2 months on my Cog. Went back to a Cog shaft. The 314 is 12.75 mm and my Cog shaft is 11mm. I get alot more action with the 11 and it feels firmer.

You guys don't think that a Predator shaft on a piece of junk butt feels different than a Predator shaft on a high quality custom? If not, then I'd say why bother with owning *any* cue? It is a not so subtle difference. Surely you guys must be able to distinguish between the *hit* of the cue and the deflection characteristics. Simply talking about the way the cue "plays" does not really speak precisely enough. That's like saying "which car drives the best?" Are we talking comfortable ride, cornering grip, steering responsiveness, turn in characteristics, etc.

I have used various LD shafts on my Andy Gilbert butt. The best *hitting* shaft is the one Andy made. The best *playing* shaft is my OB Classic. Although I must say the 314-2 shafts I have for it have better *performance*. The OB offers a great blend of reasonable hit and low deflection. There is, in fact, a noticeable difference between how my off the shelf 314-2 plays and the 314-2 that Andy put the joint in. The one he did really feels closer to the regular Andy Gilbert shaft.

I would point out to everyone that we all have different sensitivities. Some people really do not discern the differences between butts behind a Predator shaft. Some do. If you are one of the ones who doesn't...consider that it might not be the greatest idea to belittle the ones who do, when it just might be that you are the one who doesn't "get it".

No offense intended to anyone...just food for thought.

Thanks for the info. To tell you the truth I cant keep ky hands off my tascarell with Petes power ld shaft. This predator shaft is for a customer who may take the cue off my hands cause I recently found out im having another child. I wanted to keep the cue in the collection. I had Pete do a beautiful leather wrap on it but I gotta let it go. So if anyone out there wants it at a great price pm me or email me snappin9s@gmail.com
Thanks Rich

FYI, I play with a Cog and several years back I tried LD shafts. Here's the thread where I sold them after realizing I could not get used to them.

The main point is you either play with an LD shaft or you play with a natural shaft. Some folks like myself have played so long with a natural shaft to switch over is too difficult and the compensation "habit" is next to impossible to change. This is how I feel anyway.

So if you are an LD player I guess you could screw it onto anything you wanted. But a Cog would be the last cue I'd recommend (based on my experience) since they are designed for a very specific feel. Not to mention they ain't cheap.

Lastly, an LD shaft IMHO has a bigger impact on feel and hit vs the butt.

I think I'm correct on my points above but I'm not an LD expert.

Cheers

Ok I see what you are saying more clearly here. I played with a "natural" shaft for a long time and *hated* the feel of Predator when they came out. It felt dull and hollow...not for me. I didn't know anything about LD. But after a few attempts, I tried one I really liked at Valley Forge and bought it. Never looked back. I played with a Uni-loc Samsara, so the hit wasn't my primary concern at the time. I guess the point I was trying to make is that different butts have a *significant* impact on the feel and playability of LD shafts. I put my OB Classic on some piece of junk McDermott knock off, like some no name $40 cue. It felt downright horrible. And I agree that the difference from LD to solid maple is greater than the differences in butts, but not as huge of a difference as you may think.

Hope this helps,
