Preparing for a new cue - Red Oak & Ebony

i sat for awhile thinking about a new playing cue, can i ask for opinions please.
would like the forearm to be northern oak aka red oak,
full splice from the ground up using ebony.
i've asked about coring and i'm told, yes, core it, i've also asked for the cue to be longer by 1" to 1 1/2".
wrapless design, no inlay, rings ect ect, very straight forward.
my questions are primarily about the forearm wood i'm choosing.
i'd like a dense straight grain with a mild shade of the natural northern oak.
am i on the right track with this?

You don't see oak in a pool cue very often, I built a cue with a white oak forearm and butt sleeve, It is fully cored. It came out nice and plays great. It has a black walnut handle and points.

red oak

i've built a couple of cues with red oak, seems like they have a funny ping, and they were cored.white oak is more dense.i would like and plan on building some more cues with red oak,but i plan on resin impegnating it first.red oak also has a tendacy to split years down the road the resin impregnating should prevent that and eleminate the funny ping.
