Preparing For A Tournament

Over the years I have received different and often conflicting advice about preparation for tournaments.

Some of the things I have been told about practicing are:
Practice every day including tournament morning.
Get in good practice at least two weeks before the tournament.
Practice playing the ghost.
Don't practice with anyone else.
Practice with tough competitors.
Gamble with better players not getting a spot/getting a spot and vice versa for lesser players.
Practice on tables that are exactly the same or similar.
Practice on VERY TIGHT pocket tables only.
Practice on VERY LOOSE pocket tables only.
Don't gamble at all before a tournament.
Take off the day before the tournament and do not hit one ball.
Relax two days before the tournament.

This prepraration concerns practice only.

In the past, what PRACTICE strategy has worked BEST FOR YOU, preparing for your tournaments?

Thanks,
JoeyA

I go to the poolroom and bang the balls around for a couple of hours, losing money in the process. Then, I go to the tournament and bet on YOU....

Best for me ...

I believe that prepartion is the key to a strong performance. For me, I like to begin my preparation about two to three week prior to the event. I also mix up my practice sessions from drills to playing sets to keep it interesting.

If the tournament requires long days of early morning and late night matches, then I'll schedule some practice time accordingly. I find it easier to shoot late at night versus when I first get up in the morning.

As for all the conflicting advice, I think it's best summed up as "get out there and practice!"

Best of luck!

I would say..

  • Hours of self-training on the table 1 week before the big day.
  • Play lots of money games.
  • Get lots of rest/sleep before the tournament.
  • Check your equipments.
  • No sex before the tourney.

Best I can think of.. IMHO :)

I guess it was Mickey that first said, "Women weaken legs".
But I will take the other suggestions to heart.
Thanks Rattlesnake!
