Preserving a wrap during a refinish

Has anyone taped off a wrap and successfully refinished a cue's forearm or buttsleeve? I'm just wondering if you had say, an expensive EE or a Cortland wrap, and wanted to refinish the rest of the cue, would it be possible to preserve the wrap during the refinish process? Just curious if it would be worth the effort, or if it would be flat out impossible. Thank you for any advice or thoughts on the matter.

Proficient did just that for me, and charged $15 for the time to tape it off
 
Thanks for the info. I thought it wouldn't be much of an issue, but wanted to check first.
 
It can be done, just make sure you get someone who's done it before or knows the proper way to do it.
 
Yes I have done it a few times. It is no problem for an experienced refinisher.
 
As stated, not too big of a deal BUT you will never get the results of a complete refinish with re-wrap... Cheap cue, ok. Collectable cue, do a full refinish re-wrap buy the original maker if possible, an expert re-finisher, or better> Keith Josey or Pete Tascarella.:wink::)
