Preventing a cue from getting stolen

I have a Jack Justis case and keep my cues sticking out and sitting by my chair when I play. If I go to the bathroom I get a friend that I can trust to watch it for me. When I get done playing I put them away and keep my case by my side. We have had a few cues stolen here and most were by the same guy. I hope the owner keeps him out of the pool room

...and your coat and your hat and your car keys and anything else that you have with you that you want to keep. Under the table! If you look at this month's issue of Billiards Digest, you'll see a picture of the old McGirr's on Eighth Avenue and you can see that each table had a large wire basket under it into which the players could put their stuff. I remembered them precisely, except I had forgotten that they had wheels on them to make it easier to get to them and put them back in place. That was a place you really did need to have your 185 lb Rotty with you, and all your wits.

Maybe you're thinking of Chelsea billiards? Those baskets didn't have wheels, IIRC.

A combination of the following measures:

1. putting my case under the table / in the wire basket there for that purpose;
2. taking my cue with me to the restroom;
3. having my name engraved on the butt cap.

Number 3 is a given and always there, but I may relax on 1 or 2 if it's my home room, and there are no "new customers" in the room (other than the regulars that I've known for years).

If I'm in a new/unfamiliar room, or my regular room is hoppin'/jammin' with new customers, I'm on my guard, and all three measures are in place.

Use a gps device www.ZOOMBAK.com
Along with a baby alarm that you can set for 20 to 100 ft
once this alarm gets moved more than the set amount say 70 ft
the alarm goes off in your pocket.
If they get away check your GPS right on your Smartphone :-)

They better hope I don't catch them! :-)

Or better yet buy,
ZOMM Wireless Leash for Mobile Phones, and use for your cue case, or cue, if cue or case leave without you it will call or alert you via phone within 90 feet, $50.00

Lojack. Mine dials directly to Obama, who sends an attack drone. :D

lol That only works if a child has stolen your case.

I use a Lo Jack of sorts with my cue holder system. But I ain't tellin' how, yet.

here's an idea. Have a case with a strap. Put the strap through the legs of the table or chair you're at. It won't get noticed and when someone picks up your case the chair or table gets tangled up in the case. Hard not to notice that.

There are a couple things that I do.

I don't take my eyes off my cue unless I'm in my regular spot.

If you need to step away, make sure some one is aware you've done so.

Put your case under the table you playing at works OK.

My next cue has a unique bit of security, left handed threads. Most people won't be able to figure out how to get it apart. A lot harder to steal when a guy cant break it down and throw it under his coat or in a bag. Also it will be bright purple and green, so there is a good chance no one will want it to begin with!

best,

Justin
