I currently have approximately 30 pieces of premium dense growth shaft dowels which I was able to pull from an export order to South America. These are as close to perfect as you are going to find....$30 each - I do not have these very often. I also have a selection of shaft dowels in stock in various grades including some dense growth material which is a little darker than normal. These were logs I found this summer and the wood was a little darker because of the age of the tree and the time the logs were cut. Normally I would not have bought them but the ring count was too good to pass up. Selected for dense grain $9 each in orders of 100. Smaller orders priced per request. As previously posted, I still have a few of the curly and birdseye shaft dowels. The curly dowels have been in the shop over 25 years and the birdseye are from lumber cut over 25 years ago. I have been in this business far too long!
Also in inventory: 1 3/8" plain maple handle stock and some nice 1 3/8" diameter hard curly fronts - 16" and 30" pieces. There are 2 really nice birdseye logs cut, but I am waiting for more before I process the lumber further. Probably looking at late March befor I run birdseye dowels.
Wood sales are slow and I refuse to sell to the Chinese xxxxxxxx (let the canary in Quebec furnish them). Consequently, I am not cutting container loads of wood anymore. Inventory is generally limited to a few thousand pieces. I did make contact with a logger in the Anarondic Mountains in Upstate New York who said he was cutting HUGE OLD GROWTH MAPLE last winter. He claims some had rings "so close together he couldn't count them". I didn't ask about his vision capacities, but from what he was telling me, the woodlot had never been harvested. There is very little of this wood left. The logger said he would be cutting more of this wood. If there is enough interest I will consider making a trip out there and truck a load back to Michigan. This is quite an expense and I am not going to do it unless there is a market for the wood.
For those interested in buying a bunch of wood cheap like I know is being offered by the Canuck in Quebec, or another guy across the other side of Lake Michigan, I can offer dowels in quantities of 1,000 for $3.00 each. These will be random run dowels cut from straight grain veneer logs, cut speciffically for straight grain shaftwood. I have never recomended these to the small custom cue maker, but people keep buying them from these guys. Normally I dumped all these in Korea. So, if you can't beat them, join them!!! All the wood you want @ $3.00, quantities of 1,000 plus (shipping additional on all these prices).
I wish everyone a sucessful year in 2011 and a Happy Holliday Season in 2010! If you want to contact me, it is best to e mail truebuilt1@aol.com or call me @ 517-202-2935 - leave a message and I will call back.
