I'm afraid casual players are much more out of touch with the game than "hard core" players are out of touch with the casual players. The hard core know and understand how hard the games actually are and most watch pool as well as play it because of that. Most casual players would rather watch anything but pool. I agree with the subculture thing and think it will pretty much stay that way. I've tried to help/teach many casual players how to understand/play the game better and most don't care, again. A lot of that has to do with the "macho" image that a lot of casual players have about pool.
