Pro Taper

So I got an old regular solid shaft that is kind of useless for me.
It currently has a European taper on it.
Feels very stiff and I don't mind that. It just plays like crap.
I an toying with the idea of changing the taper on it.

I have wasted who knows how much on low deflection x, y, and z.

So after taking a buch of measurements of shafts that I currently have, I started to see a trend.

It would seem that I did prefer those shafts that have a taper that increased by only .5 mm in the first 10 inches or very close to that.

I also measured the increase for tip to + 1.0 mm and I am not so sure that measuremt had as much bearing on which shaft is like how it felt and performed.

As cue makers is this something you take into account when you do a "pro taper" on a shaft?

Does what I am saying make sense as far as feel vs. performance?

Feel vs Performance

I am not sure you can separate feel from performance and vice-a-versa.
Shaft taper, while important, is not the only aspect of shaft technology that needs to be taken into consideration. Quality and history of the shaft wood,
ferrule material and length, tenon diameter, tip and it's hardness, shaft finish, threaded insert material and shaft collar material and design are all contributing factors to shaft performance. This does not take into account the "human" element. Just my thoughts on the issue.

You make some valid points.
Let's assume for a minute the the tip ferrule and insert are all the same.
Keeping the tip at 12.75 mm.
I guess there will always be variation s in wood as well.

Maybe I should not have used the word performance.
Maybe I should say it is a balance between feel and shaft flex at the tip.
