There was a posting recently by John Schmidt in which he calls for all of the tours to unite and create a pro and amateur system in which all of the tours and promoters unite. I agree with this idea however in my opinion i dont think all of the tours will come together under one banner due to the fact that everyone is going to look at the what can it do for me factor. Many major sports organizations out there have one singular governing body. I think this is where pool has been going wrong for several years. Whether its the controversy in the Phillipines or the IPT or UPA or BCA or any of our many governing bodies. We all need to come together under one roof so to speak. Set up a system as John had said where amateurs can really aspire to become professionals. Im not knocking any other sport here when i say that i truly believe ours to the hardest around. Dont get me wrong i am not in the mood every day to get the snot beat out of me by a three hundred pound bohemeth line backer but think of the pay difference.
A little while back I posted about a major sponsorship deal for pool. Whether it be Starbucks Nike Reebok even Puma. Something that would give our sport a little more credibility. I even made a reference to a billiard shoe in which people scoffed at it. However the following day there it as clear as day in our very own forum people talking about their favorite shoe to play in. Believe me folks when i say any idea for our sport in which it will bring more people and more media and more structure is a good one. Is a billiard shoe our saving grace? i dont think so but its nice to think that someday on the cover of sports illustrated someone like John SChmidt who ran four hundred balls could be there instead of Lebron James for the four hundredth time. While he is a fantastic athlete Im sure and i mean no offense by this I dont think Johnny Archer or Mika Immonen or John Schmidt are going to show up on MTV Cribs anytime soon.
SO here it is the offer this is an open invitiation to all amateur pro and hobby shooters. Tell me what you want in a tournament help me find backers and promoters, companies and tables who will get together and make a sick tournament happen. A Massive field of pro and amateur alike. Give me ideas as to format and more. I am open ready and waiting to hear from all of you. LETS MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN.
