Problem with Accu-loc joint

My brother bought me a new Players cue earlier in the week and I went to use it for the first time last night. When putting the cue together I was able to get about 2 full turns and then a grinding noise began, I had heard this before so I gave it about another half turn and the joint is now locked about 3/4 way to being together. It will not turn either way, it is siezed. Any suggestions as to how to get this cue apart without damaging the cue? It was purchased in another state and would be about a 3 hour drive to take it back.

The good news is I picked up a bar cue and held the table for a dozen games, maybe I don't need this new cue after all. LOL

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I think that usually happens with that type of pin due to some dirt or debris. It may require clamping one end of the cue in a vice (wrapped with lots of padding ofcourse) and getting a real good grip with the other end if you are not able to loosen it with two people.

Maybe someone else has a more sophisticated solution for you.

I actually had someone bring over a players cue with the exact same problem.
I had to heat the joint insert, pull the shaft off, then put the insert in a vise and twist it off. It actually looked like their were metal shavings in the threads. Cleaned up and reglued the insert. I don't know if this is something that you would want to tackle. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, since this cue is only a few days old I guess I better take it back to the dealer. Good excuse for a road trip.

Thanks again.

Update

The dealer has replaced this cue for me and actaully gave me a better cue. They told me that 1 in 300 of the players cues with this joint have this problem. I don't know how accurate that is but that is what they said.

Not too bad for your trouble. Have no idea about 1 in 300, sounds like some quality control statistic advertised by Players. I would guess that is just what is reported and that kind of seizing up is more common.

I'm not sure why the cue would lock up like that, but I know a couple guys who used locktight by mistake to clean their Beretta 9mm (thought it was oil). You can imagine their surprise when they tried to load the guns later they they were frozen. They finally put them in boiling water and they loosened up.

OOPS!
