problem with tournaments

Most tourneys I've been in pay out to 25% of the field. Spreads the gold a lil thin. I would like to see 10% of the field payed. Lil more money for the winners.:D
I think that one of the problems with paying less of the field is that the TD's want to ensure that the people coming back for the second day are in the money. Therefore, if they pay a smaller percent of the field, they would have to take the first day longer and sometimes that is not possible.

I agree with the concept that you should not have to come back for the second day if you are not in the money.

For smaller one day tournaments I agree with you, they should be much more top heavy on payment and from my experience they usually are.

As one of the founders of the Southwest Tour, the McDermott National 9-Ball Tour, and The National 9-Ball Tour for Texas Express Promotions group, we made soooooooooooo much money that a couple of us filed for bankruptcy. We had the green fees, the membership cards, the auction income. Our advertising budget ran from 35K to 85K a year. I can assure you, if you took into consideration the hundreds of thousands of hours we spent promoting and directing tournaments, we did not come close to making minimum wage.
Sure it is great to have someone local do an event for nothing, give away more money to the players, but try to coordinate 100+events nationwide along with keeping track of 25,000 players and their addresses, money won, points system, etc.etc. and you might understand the value you are receiving for your participation.
It is simple....if you dont like it...DONT PLAY!!!!

pretty sure in time those tournaments that have 80 people and only pay around $1200 for first will be a thing of the past. So when the time comes dont be surprised. If someone wants to have a good fair paying tournament get in touch with scotty townsend he has some good ideas for a tournament.
