Problems w/ Tour Sponsors...

Just curious about something...

Last August I was contacting many people in the pool "business" seeking sponsorship for the Gateway Amateur 9-Ball Tour. I received verbal confirmation from a well known and respected (to my knowledge) person in the billiard industy. Along with the products, I was suppose to receive a signed copy of the Sponsor Contract. I haven't received anything as of today! I've tried to contact this person many times over the past couple months to see what is going on, but no reply. I know the business is still going strong, a "new release" of one of his products was recently announced.

What should I do at this point? His business has already been advertised each month and placed on the banner and monthly flyers. I don't want to disclose the business or person at this time, just want to hear others opinions.

Thanks,
Zim

Zim,
I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but after over 30 years in the business world, one thing I have learned is that NOTHING is valid unless it is in writing. You might have jumped the gun a bit by providing promotional services without having the contract in hand. Unless the individual you spoke with owns the business, they may not have had the authority to make a committment. Perhaps something changed within that particular business that caused them to re-evaluate their plans to provide sponsorship. As nice as it would be to handle business verbally, it just isn't a good way to get things done. Running a tour is a business, and you have to treat it as such.
I'm not putting the blame on you, as I don't know all the circumstances, but it's always a good idea to CYA in all business dealings.

My heart goes out to you as I run a tour also and know what and how painful the situation can be.
I agree though, it ain't done till you get the signature. That doesn't help abit now though, and I understand better than you think.
I wouln't go public with it now either. t some point, you will have too though.
I would send a registered letter and explain your situation and that you have done as you have promised and kept your end of the verbal agreement.
Sometimes you have to "smoke em out".
Good luck. I know the pain.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got in touch with the "Sponsor" and he's shipping his product tomorrow, so I should have it next week!

Thanks,
Zim

Hey Zim,

That's great news indeed! I see that you are a member of The International Cuemakers Assoc. and they have several booths at Valley Forge. Are you planning on attending this year?

Hope everything is good by you.

Hugs to you and the family,

Eydie

Eydie,

Yes, I'm a member of the ICA, but I wont be attending Valley Forge. I'm so busy with school, family, the Tour, my League, building cues, the website and working on a new marketing promo for my business.

Hope all is well up North!
Zim
