Problems with Predator Ferrals anyone?

Donald, I guess you didn't catch that it was Predator Technology rather than Predator shaft. This could mean that they use the BK cue, or did at one time. Regardless, Predator is a real shaft that really has won a fair number of professional tournaments whether you choose to accept it or not. I choose to use a Predator shaft because it works for me and I like it. I did not buy into any hype or BS. I was skeptical when I first tried it out and I found that I liked it more than I thought that I would. None of that had to do with any marketing hype.

COF, I accept it. Do you accept that more don't than do? I am not knocking the shaft, just the price. And yes, I think it is just the hype. That is why you will find Predator lovers and haters. I have tried em, I do not use one. I also sell quite a few of them. I am not knocking them, just the bogus claims. I am happy for any player who finds something that improves their game. Have fun with your game man. That is the most important thing in my opinion!
Purd :D

Thanks, I guess we just have differing views on them. I think they are worth the price, but I know that not everyone does. Maybe someday I will see the light. :p

I think that if you took a poll you would find it to be 50/50. Just like every other important issue this country faces. :D
I have to tell you one thing though: "YIKES" Looks like your balls are on fire!!!!! Don

ive used a 314 shaft for about 2 years now. they play okay. i dont like the way they hit but they play okay. i much prefer the hit of a nice solid maple shaft with a ivory ferule and a moori tip on it. i think they are vcery overpriced for what they are. especially the Z IMO.

I pretty much agree with Purd. If you like the damn things, more power to you! There is more than a little bit of "mind games" that goes along with shooting well. Anything that interferes with your concentration is a negative. IMHO, a cue should be sort of "invisable" to you while you're shooting. Anything that draws your attention to the cue, rather than the shot, can cause you to miss. I didn't mean to open up a can of worms here about Predator shafts, just wanted to state my opinions and observations based upon many years of playing pool and making cues. If your experience differs, I can respect that. I'm not a person who believes that there is only ONE correct way to get from point A to point B! My father was in various areas of the Auto business, most of his life. For a period he was sales manager at an Oldsmobile dealership. He used to always tell me "There's an ass for every seat!" It's just a matter of putting the right ass in the right seat!

Just more hot air!

seems to be a lot of predator bashing going on here. I personally love the way my predator plays. Others may not. Concerning you original problem with the ferrule. I had some dumb ass retip my cue and he took a big slice out of the ferrule, so I sent it to predator to have it redone. Not only did they do a nice job in a timely fashion, but they did it for free. I fully expected to pay for this. All in all, they have represented themselves very well in regards to me and all of my friends that have had problems

you guys are nuts

This is crazy, who cares who uses them, who cares what anyone else thinks? If it feels good to you, Play with It!
Best cue I ever shot with was an '83 Richard Black 60' long... The only cue that came close to that was my friend who cut a house cue in half, and put a predator on it. The Richard Black had a soft but solid hit, like the cue goes through the cueball without slowing down, like you pushed some air. The Pred. had a stiff solid hit like it... nevermind, I cant describe it accuratly.

Thanks for the tip.. Ill send it off to Predator this week!

lol ya forgot LARRY NEVEL!!! the pro use them because they hit ok and the cues were given to them from predatore they will probally sell them over time thats what most pro's do just ask them.. my 2 cents..

COF, I can assure you that all the players mentioned do not play with a Predator shaft. That is the truth. For example, I see Keith on there. He doesn't play with a Predator shaft. He play with a Willie shaft. Just because Predator gave all the players a shaft does not necesarly mean they play with them. It is just gullible people who believe all the mis-information.
My only problem with them is that they are overpriced. Buddy, I get them for $140 and that is to much.JMO
Purd? rhymes with Turd?

Most pro's love to sell the free gifts from the cue makers they like money$$ if they like it they would already play with it. my 2 1/2 cents

I have had 4 different predator shafts. Two came from a cheaper place and 2 came from a very good cue retailor. The two that were cheap had the second grade wood in them but played the same as the higher costing ones.As far as the shafts go I love the way they shoot when shooting a long cut shot or punch stroke shots.Other than that if you play with a custom cue from a good cue maker they're shafts are alomost as stiff as the predators and plays just as good.I think its more mental than anyting. Its like a guy with a stock car motor and he puts a high dollar muffler on it.He thinks it made a big difference when in all the truth is, most likely it did nothing or very little.Just my 2 cents

I play and brake with my Predator cue (4K1) and have noticed that my ferral wears down in a cone shape pattern. This is from breaking... the friction from the felt after I follow through actually melts the ferral. This has happened on two of their standard ferrals, they are made of real soft meterial I was told.
My real question is... what kind of ferral should I replace them with and still break with, and how will it effect my hit on the CB?

I think you should do a search of posts on the cuemaker forum for
IVOR-X and phenolic ferrules. ;) Also search for predator ferrule.
