Promised Vs Final Pay Out

This isn't so much of a Rant as it is a statement of facts. Maybe it is the economy that is effecting this because it has only been last few years I am seeing or hearing about this.

I am reading here and hearing in other places that Tournament Pay Outs Promised and Paid are two different things. My personal Rant might be that I got screwed out $ 438.00 because I didn't get paid at all. Maybe that why I started this thread but let us not go there.

However it does seem to be the same places that advertise big ad on and never come through with all the cash or have very small print disclaimers. While I am seeing this in more than one local venue there is always one that does it more than the rest. The worst one I am talking about uses a lot of creative math. They also charge a registration fee that adds up to more than the the add on. Calcutta accounting is never shown which leads me to believe there is some graff taken. I also get very suspicious when the Venue owner always wins the Raffles. So of course I no longer play at that venue which hurts me. But I have also noticed that Venue doesn't get a big repeat player list and is well known by most. They now do more Poker tournament than Pool Tournaments.

Simple, they should just post the prize break... I.e. 25% 1st, 15% 2nd etc. and the amount taken from prize pool. The players always do the math anyways, this way it will add up.

Maybe I am Ranting but I think most of us know what should be done. My post is more about what is being done. Some how as a small businessman I am into good will with my customers and it sometimes cost me even if it is not my responsibility. But when I look at the cost of acquiring a new customer as opposed to the cost of keeping customers the math works for me. When I have to make a customer happy and it costs me money, I write it off to advertising expense because that good will gets me a lot of word of mouth and I don't advertise.

I have seen several Pool Venues go out of business in these hard times and a few more that are hurting. I am only trying to make a statement here that Promised and Pay Out is getting more common in the pool world. Seems there was some discussion here about Galveston pay outs also.
