Proper Pool Edicate.....

I'm sure its not just me but are there an abundance of rude inconsiderate people in your pool rooms? I would like to hear some of your ideas at what proper etiquette (there you go RunoutalloverU)while playing pool are so I can make a list and show it to some of these people that frustrate the hell out of me  .

Keep in mind that all of these would be in place during a tournament, league match, or while gambling.

I know that a person should use some common sense and not be standing by the table while your opponent is shooting.
Not making any distracting movements in your opponents field of vision.
Try not to make your opponent wait for a ridiculous amount of time between turns.
Turn your phone off or at least on vibrate as to not distract your opponent.

I know there are plenty more but like I said I'm curious to what people will come up with. I also have a few that I am curious about such as.......

After your opponent shoots a good shot compliment them. The reason I wonder about this one is wouldn't it interrupt their line of thought about pool and get them thinking about the shot and how good it was?
When your opponent is done shooting asking them if they would explain how they shot the shot and why they thought that was the best shot to take.
Also when is the "most appropriate" time to take a bathroom break? Then end of a rack? At the beginning of your inning? or would this be a case where you just ask your opponent if "we could take a break?"

I'd really appreciate any input on this as like I said, I would like to print out a list to show a few people. And not so much as to be mean but I do have a few friends that are just getting into pool and would like a few guidelines on what and what not to do.

Thanks in advance.

There was actually a list of do's and don't on here about a week or so ago. Go hunting through the pages. I'm sure you'll find it.

And I'm not knocking your spelling but when you search for that thread you should spell it "Etiquette" or you probably won't find it.

Just today I was playing a gentleman who was very subtle but effective at distractive moves. He did small movements, looking at his watch scratching his nose and such.He was able to time his movements perfectly on my final stroke. This guy also maid noises while behind me but mostly he would just move either in front of me(we were playing 1 pocket so that is fairly acceptable).

Noticing my opponent while I am trying to focus on the table has always been a big problem for me.I work very hard now on overcoming this. For me I noticed my attitude is the best way to handle it(and the one thing I can control).

Today I was able to fix the problem without it costing me the match.First he got me 2 times on key shots and had me down 3 games. After recognizing that he was doing it on purpose I got chuckle out of it but didn't say anything. The next time he tried it I took an extra practice stroke and faked him out and then executed the shot perfectly. He tried 2 more times, once on a meaningless shot witch made me laugh and again on a big shot but he could not effect my shot anymore. He finally gave up.We ended up even and parted on friendly terms.

There is a lot of bad behavior where I play some of it is planned to distract people much of it is people not knowing any better.Being ready for it helps but also the ability to laugh it off seams to be the best remedy for me.

If you can laugh that off more power to you. I'm glad this time you broke out even. Too bad you couldn't put a whuppin on that guy. Let that be a lesson to you. If you were down for some serious cash the moves would have been more obvious, and distracting. Choose your opponents carefully.

Oh by the way, he wasn't a "gentleman"...Tom
