Proper Terminology & Question...?

When a Custom Cue has Fancy Ringwork at the Joint and Shafts that all
align when both the Butt & Shaft are screwed together called what.....?

I always thought It was called Indexing but I am not sure if this is correct

I have owned several High End cues and the Ringwork has not always
aligned up when the Butt & Shaft were put together depending on the
Cuemaker.

I guess what I am asking is what the proper term is for this and if it is
something fairly easy to do or is there special knowledge needed by the Cuemaker to make Custom Ringwork always align when a cue is screwed together.

I personally Always thought it Really hurt the overall look of a custom cue
when the ringwork did not align.

Any information as Always is Greatly Appreciated.

I would just call that Butt/Shaft Joint Ring Alignment.

Most cue joints compress over time and the alignment will not be there most likely in the long run. So the aligned look may be just right when new, but will move over time. I normally do 12 evenly spaced silver stitch rings and I do not try to align the shaft rings with the butt rings. The reason is all my shafts are interchangeable, so the customer can pick the shaft they want on the spot. I never have to see their cue again to be able to build them another shaft. Other cuemakers do the same thing, so that may explain why some are not lined up while others are. I think the benefit of interchangeable shafts far outweigh the slight misalignment of stitch rings, especially since most will not stay lined up for the long run anyway.

If I was making something unusual with gemstones or something in the shaft and butt rings then I would align them since those shafts would only go with that cue.
