Pro's don't need that fancy $5000 crap to do well

Having

the wrong cue is like being married to a woman that doesn't feel or play right.... LOL and those things are subjective.

I see lots of pros playing with under $1,000 cues, more playing with 1-2k cues, and a few with cues over 2k. As with anything else, when their budget permits it, they start thinking about nicer equipment, just like you or I.

And don't uinderestimate the sentimentality that some players have for a particular cue.

Pros usually will 'faze in' a new cue over a period of time, and decide when the time is right to 'try it' in a big tournament, always knowing they can switch back to the older cue if necessary.

I change my playing depending on the equipment, but some players will switch cues depending on the equipement being played on. To each his own.

Cues do make a difference, however small or great it may be, but at their level, one miscue, one mistake can lose the entire match for you, so would you use some cheap cue and take the chance, or would you have the best cue you have there for playing?

Tap, tap, tap!!!

I remember watching John Horsfall beat Earl in the 97 US Open sending him to the losers side playing with a 1 piece snooker cue with a brass ferrule and a 10mm tip:D He did buy a cue from the Stealth vendor for the semis to break with.

Does everyone understand what I mean by dignity?

Come on, guys... No one's discussing the playability of production cues.

Note to Ktown D, you really need to explain why you think something is silly. Is conducting yourself with dignity a silly idea? Dignity is something an individual should expect of himself. Dignity can be demonstrated by how you conduct yourself. By the way you dress (yes, the way you dress) and even the equipment you use.

The subject of dignity is very subjective. I wear a suit to church. I wear a suit to funerals. I choose to wear hats now, a fedora or homburg when I'm dressed up and a cap when dressed casually. A person who dresses "up" shows respect for himself and the people around him.

This is pretty straightforward and simple stuff. You think it's silly? So what? It's of no real concern. Have fun doing things your way.

It's ignorant and STUPID to say that people own a custom cue BECAUSE they can afford it. Anyone who isn't a homeless person can afford any custom cue under $3,000. Anyone who uses a PC in their home or apartment can afford any cue under $3K. Take out a small loan if you must. It's the waiting list that drives me crazy. I hate to wait. Money is meant for spending.

As for Cliff Joyner, I know he isn't sponsored by Meucci. Meucci's reputation is really low, primarily because Meucci is a phenomenon of the mid to late 80's where some people mistakenly thought a whippy soft shaft would reduce throw. The pool world can only accomodate one idea at a time so when the rest of the industy tossed aside the whippy shaft idea Meucci couldn't recover because they were identified entirely by their "soft" hitting cues.

This is not a flaming of Meucci post, it's simply an acknowledgement of the shortcoming of this cue and how any poolplayer who uses one must compensate in his stroke and, who really knows how much this is reducing his game?

As for pro players using custom cues... Who's against that? The pro should represent the pinnacle of pool and not just be a walking billboard.

Go custom cue. You'll like yourselves in the morning

P.S. - I once tested a Viking cue, priced $340, and it hit perfect. It had feel, feedback, appropriate stiffness... It had it all!!! It's at the Cue 'n Cushions in St. Louis right now. Go and buy it. That cue is dead stroke right on! No Meucci ever played as well... And that's not saying much... :D

From the desk of the One-Eyed Jack!

This is, without a doubt, one of the most ignorant, thoughtless posts I've seen since I came to AZ. Get real.
