If you spend the money to get a expensive cue made, you are a nitwit not to order a 2nd shaft.
If you ever badly damaged your cue shaft, your backup shaft ensures you could still sell the cue
and not take a beating. A lot of players want two different size shafts. 13mm is the most popular.
So having a 13 mm is always smart. Some players favor something a little slimmer, maybe 12.75
to 12.8mm so a 13mm backup shaft protects your cue value. If you only take one cue with you to
play in a tournament and the shaft got damaged or the ferrule broke, tip came off, whatever…..you
have another shaft to use. Most people that spend the money to have a cue made aren’t concerned
about the price of two shafts. The first cue Bob Owen made for me has 3 shafts as does my Runde
Schon. All my other cues, including my Palmer cue, has two shafts. And if I were to ever sell any of my
cues, I’d get a better price because of the cue having two shafts, especially when one has little use, if any.
Don’t kid yourself for a moment. When someone tells you they didn’t order a 2nd shaft or told the maker
they only wanted one shaft, it isn’t because they really believe you only need one orig. shaft with a pool cue.
That might be true if they were going to also be ordering a 3rd party CF shaft. Nope, it comes down to saving
money. Anyone claiming differently is likely yanking on your pants leg. To each their own but I vote get 2 shafts.
