Public vs. PMs

I have a question for those who ask questions in the Ask the Instructor Forum. After you've asked a question in the forum, do you get private messages from people? I'm thinking that happens quite often. Am I wrong?

I'm not one of those who asks a lot of questions here, but I occasionally get follow-up PMs from those who do.

I almost never send PMs about a question. I think it is much better to answer here so all can get benefit from the answer or have a chance to correct it if it is wrong or unclear.

Rather annoying are those who post clearly personal messages here instead of sending PMs, like, "Hey, Joe, I'll see you on Friday." Such messages just clutter the discussions. PMs are a much better way to send such messages.
 
i am not an instructor and try make that clear in my posts and pm's
i will sometimes send a pm about my personal experience with a problem
that i dont feel is necessary to share in public
