Purchasing a cue online

Howdy, to all fellow forum members. I am inclined to buy an affordable cue online, since the prices I've seen beat anything in billiard supply stores in New York. But I've never purchased a cue online and do not know how trustworthy some of the sites are, like cheapcues.com Can anyone here relate their experiences buying cues online from different companies? Which are trustworthy? Which ones should I stay away from lest I should get a warped, sapping shaft two months later?
Thanks folks.

I have bought about 4 cues online, and haven't really had a problem except for one. I think a few things you need to ask yourself:

Do you know what type of cue you want?

Does the supplier (applicable for production style cues) sell larger volumes?

Online Cues

If you are looking for a new cue, tell us what you are looking for, what your budget is, and maybe someone here can help ya out. There are several of us here that buy and sell cues. Custom and production. I for one give great deals to fellow AZ members. Ask em!
If you arn't sure what ya want, I suggest you get out there and try everything you can get your hands on. Then make your decision. JMHO

Drop me a line a dooziexx@yahoo.com. I can get you cues way less than online stores can.

I also would highly recommend Hawley's. I on my second purchase with them; just picked up a break cue. They are very customer friendly and will price match with any advertised site. They even matched a few of my items I just ordered that had better prices on different sites. This is what I look for when shopping online. A place that not only you can order directly online but where you can also call and get a hold of someone directly. Add the knowledgeable, friendly staff and you have a winning business. Rest assured I have no affiliation what so ever with Hawley's. I am just a satisfied customer.

Thanks guys

I'm currently going through the sites that everyone suggested on this thread and reviewing my options. Unfortunately, I'm on a tight budget and that's going to be the main factor in deciding my purchase this time. I just need something to shoot with immediately. Gotta be wood to wood, not but heavy, irish linen, and 19oz. I'm most worried that the shaft be straight and well-seasoned. Oh, and I don't care about the ivory ferrule, inlays or points... for now. To those who left me their e-mail, I should be contacting you within the week. Purdman, I actually am following your advice. Thanks again.

This is not a bad deal...

what's your budget?

You can try ebay. You have to find out what you ae looking for and how much you want to spend. For example, I was looking for a Predator; I did my research on models, price, age, and depreciation. I found an older Predator SPJ with a leather wrap for $275. I did the same when i was looking for a Schon. I found an older Schon STL8 in near flawless condition(it has one knick in the finish on the but), straight as an arrow, for $366. Then I bought a Predator shaft for the schon for only $100. Figure out what you want, how much it will cost you, then look for the deal. I dont mind buying older cues, provided they are in excellent condition.

I have bought 4 USED cues online all through E-BAY. All have been good deals and some of my favorite cues. - First was a plain (but attractive) brunswick - it was light - I gave it ot my wife she loves it.
Then I got a Mcdermott with 2 shafts (one 12.5 mm and other 13 mm).
Used that for awhile, then got a Mali cheap, need minor repears and love it.
And a viking cue. All shafts were good deals, and great for the price.
Mcdermott was resold, as was the Viking. But were holding on to the Bruswick and the Mali. I have bought some cheap cues new too, but really like the quality of my old cues better.

Like Don Purdy, I sell cues, cases and accessories also. I have sold to many AZ members with a great discount. Someone mentioned to "support AZ members", that's a great idea. Among the AZ family is many sellers, builders, repairman and instructors. Post exactly what your looking for and I guarantee you'll find it here on AZ cheaper than most places.

Best of luck!

Got it

Thanks Zim and all of you folks who've been helpful. I settled for a Adam DX-8. Like I said, my main concerns were affordability and expediency. But I may still need you in the future, guys. And if/when that happens I'll keep you in mind. Take care
