Purpleheart shaft vs maple for dings - Break cue

I currently break with a cheap Action break jump cue and it has to be made of the softest wood ever made. I baby my stuff and this thing is constantly getting dings in it. I have more dings in it than I ever did with my 30 year old Falcon and Dufferin. Anyway, I was looking at a carbon fiber break cue but I'm cheap so I was thinking of a purpleheart by Schmelke. Honestly my main goal is to just not have a shafts that's always dinged up. Is the purpleheart shaft going to be that much harder than the maple on my Action or should I look for a cheap carbon fiber breaker? Thanks as always!

I have made a few Purpleheart Break shafts. This is the one I made for myself. It is a great break shaft. Slick, powerful, and solid. I have had zero issues with wood damage. Black Tomahawk ferrule and a white phenolic pad. trying different tips right now. Bulletproof was great as always, using a Samsara now, and plan to try a C4 soon. I am using it on an Ebony Dufferin conversion (19oz). I was reluctant to give up my Pechauer Black Ice at first, but not anymore.

Very nice! Thanks! I guess if I hate it I could get a cf shaft at that point. The Action I have has a stupid action quick release that nobody seems to make shafts for. LOL

I just finished up a purpleheart breakfast for myself, and I have no idea why I didn't make one sooner. It hits harder than all of my other [purchased] break shafts!

To the OP, you can't go wrong with a purple shaft 🙂 much harder than maple so it will not ding as easily.

There are plenty of carbon shafts available for the cheap and they never ding.

Buy right the first time.
Agreed, if you prefer CF then I recommend finding a cheap one. But I wouldn't say they never ding, they are just harder to ding. I have seen plenty of damaged CF.

I just prefer wood myself. The purpleheart shaft is also pretty tough and has been great for me. If it does ever get a ding, I'll be able to fix it.
