Purpleheart shaft?

Today, I happened to be at the poolhall when the guy that used to distribute the jukebox and video machines was showing a Espiritu that had a purpleheart shaft. The first jump/break cue that I have seen by Russ. Seemed like a nice jump/break, but the shaft totally caught me off guard. Never seen a cue with a purpleheart shaft. Just curious if anyone has ever seen someone that used purpleheart for a shaft. The cue was pretty heavy and probably would be nice for breaking, but I have a hard time wondering why someone would want a purpleheart shaft?

It's too stiff, too rough and too heavy for my liking. Have some in the shop. I don't even want to finish them.

Corey Duell uses one from Jacoby on his break cue. I didn't get a chance to try it out personally but a friend of mine did and said it was alright. However I noticed this friend of mine didn't run out and by a purpleheart shaft. ;)

I have sold a few hundred purple heart shaft blanks over the years and 95% of them were for break or jump cues. They are very stiff and therefore put very little english on the ball so they are good for a controlled break. I don't sell as many now as I have the 25 ply laminated maple shafts which are stiffer than regular shafts, but not as stiff as PH. They seem to be just the right happy medium for breaking and jumping, so I may eventually phase out purple heart shafts.
