Purpleheart Shafts?

I was recently watching a player that was breaking with what appeared to be a purpleheart shaft.

It make sense to me as the wood would be heavier & stiffer than maple thereby transmitting more energy to the cue ball and moving the balance a little more forward for tip control.

Anyone have experience with this?

I have hit with a purpleheart break cue, both butt and shaft. I liked the hit and liked the look.

There are some differing opinions on the use of purpleheart as a shaft, but some cuemakers seem to be making them with success. What will be interesting is to see if one made now (meaning a shaft) will hold up and still be used in 10 or 15 years.

My understanding is they make a great break shaft. I have heard of people using them for regular play, but have also heard they are not best suited for that. now that could vary because some people just don't like a stiff shaft, where as others might. I have a PH blank that I was going to try on a break cue to see for Myself.

I have made several PH shafts for break cues locally. People are liking them for breaking and jumping because of the stiffness, and they hit VERY solid. They do weigh a little more than maple, and are almost too stiff for playing.

I have blanks if anyone wants one made. $100 to fit any cue.
