PVC / ABS pipe ball return?

I have a 9' Gandy Big G Limited that I am fixing up. Love the table! But it needs new cloth, cushions, and a few other missing parts replaced.

One thing I'd like to do is replace the missing ball return system. There is evidence that there was once a ball return track mounted and Ken Hush has these, but I am trying to cleverly think of a way to build a ball return system out of pipe till I can save up for the replacement parts on my restoration.

Has anyone ever made their own ball return out of plastic piping? Please share ideas and pics!
 
After doing a bit of research, this would take quite a bit of tweaking and I'm not sure it would fit under my table. I don't wish to modify my table either. Plus these fittings are quite a bit at Home Depot and my local store only has ABS in 3" which is quite expensive as well.

On the other hand, Muellers has a nice ball return system that'll work till I replace my Gandy with the correct parts.
