Q Clean question

Hey everyone, do the Q Clean products do any damage to the shaft? In other words, do they remove any of the wood? Also, how often should I be cleaning my shaft with Q Clean or other products. How much is too much/not enough? The reason I ask is that I CANNOT STAND dirty, chalked up shafts or ferrules! :D

I use Cue Doctor.

Don't know about Q clean, but I'm sure such things definately don't do any damage to your shaft. At least I didn't notice any surface removal...

A friend from my club applies Cue Doctor every day he plays, and so far nothing has happened to his shaft. Though I think he's just wasting that rather expensive fluid...

I do normal cleaning of the shaft every day and apply Cue Doctor fluid about once in two weeks. It's a fine product.
 
Q-Clean, Q-Smooth, and all other Q-Products are great!
I use Q-Clean once a week and Q-Smooth (burnishing pads) when ever my shaft "feels" not so smooth. They do not harm the shaft, in my experience.

The Q-Clean causes no harm as far as I can tell, but the Q-Smooth papers, especially the white, will remove wood from your shaft. I found out the hard way. My shaft went from 13mm to 12.5mm over a period of 2 or 3 years and about 30 cleanings.

I still use the yellow (very fine) sometimes but very lightly.
 
I doubt that these products will do any cue damage. However, there is a cue clean product on the market that is nothing more than re-packaged SoftScrub® and that is definitely abrasive.

However, all these products are extremely overpriced for what you get.
Using warm water and a soft, clean cloth will do the job most of the time.
Using lighter fluid and a soft, clean cloth also works great.
Briskly burnish with a soft clean cloth after cleaning to finish the job.

Thanks everyone for all your advice. Lighter fluid, toothpaste, warm water on the shaft and ferrule??? I guess it's hard to believe all this stuff works without damaging the cue. But I appreciate all responses.

I have used Q Clean a few times now for my new shafts in order to keep them continuously clean. It's been working wonderfully. I'll keep it up about once each week.

Anymore ideas, pass them along...

by the way, what kind of "normal shaft cleaning" should I be doing after each session? Just a towel, damp towel? I never used to keep my shafts clean but now I realize how important it is in order to maintain a smooth stroke so I want to change that habit ;)
