Question about Brass shaft insert VS Plastic insert

I recently had my Revo shaft pin insert changed to 5/16x14, the cue maker changed the brass with a plastic insert.
Should I stay with the plastic or ask the cue maker to change it to brass? I don't know the advantages between the 2

Brass is heavier and in theory more durable. I have a Tiger shaft for that same pin and that is plastic, so if Tiger thinks it's good enough, it's probably fine to use.

Other then weight, I dont know if the characteristics would be different. Sure a Brass one would be stronger, but if the shaft is screwed all the way in I wouldnt think there would be much pressure on the threads when striking.

I would think there very well could be a lot of pressure on the threads on a forceful miscue or off center hit.

If it’s plastic, IMO the biggest problem that might occur is not screwing the shaft on properly and stripping the threads. It may not be plastic, ask your cue maker about it. If you take care in assembly there shouldn’t be a problem.

Just FYI, Joss cues use 5/16-14 threads with steel pins & and the shaft insert threads are not always brass - most (all?) are some form of black linen/phenolic. Not only do they last well, but they hit phenomenally well. Are you sure the “plastic” is really plastic? A pic of the new shaft insert would maybe help folks give you better insight on it. Cheers

Cue makers have been using nylon and phenolic inserts for decades. If it's not broke, don't fix it!
