I found a group of tables for sale but the problem is I've never heard of them and can find little info. The only info I have found is the tables are more common in England. I was hoping someone could tell me a little about them. They're a steel framed Cosmos table. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

english pool tables are used to play an english version of 8 ball. the tables can be 6, 7, or 8 foot. they look like a snooker table, with the rounded pocket facings and tight pockets. the cloth is napped as well. the rules are slightly different than us 8 ball, but the main concept is the same, pocket your group then the 8 ball to win. the UK version uses solid red and solid yellow balls and a numbered 8 ball. usually the balls are 2" in size and the cue ball is smaller at 1 7/8". the cues are like snooker cues, small tips and usually made of ash. I have never seen such a table in the US.

ah i see....i thought he meant "english pool" and not an american pool table sold in england, haha

i actually do happen to know a little bit about the cosmos tables. if this is the same cosmos, the club i belong to has two of their carom tables. it's a korean knockoff of the european chevillote. they seem to be of decent quality. i don't know about their pool tables though.

UK 8 Ball Pool Bar Tables

It is a game of chess on a pool table.Trust my word I played it and it is a fantastic game played at a high skill level.Anyway I played local league for The Glenhead Social Club and it was a brilliant night out.Every year the beaks would tinker with the rules and it would favour a potter, next thing it's a 2 shots carry senario and it favours the safety player.Chess players don't get 2 moves in a row:wink:Know what I mean.

Basically the best of your pub players are at a county standard and if they get two shots they are odds on to clear the table so thats all they play for, two shots.
Fudgers as we called em, they wear the carpet out walking around the table, bend down and imagine every concievable scenario, chalk their tip 20 times between shots give you the odd look to see if your so pissed off with them your getting way to many pints down you and then play a 1" tip tap shot.

Pain in the arse i call em, thanfully theres as many world rules games around nowadays.

I hate it. I'd go as far to say it offends me. It sums up everything that's wrong in cuesports. It makes me mad even thinking about it.

I offered to help run a comp recently. There were 42 players, straight knockout, playing best of 7 til the semis, then best of 9. This was on 8 tables, which were in use at all times. The competition lasted for 10 hours, with the final alone lasting 1.5 hours.

But it's the rules that really annoy me. Not only are they crap - all three million varieties - but it's constantly overhearing players arguing about which the "official" ones are that gets my goat.

A best of nine final that lasted an hour and a half! Hell that was a quicky,

I've only ever played the one season in a league about 10 years ago and i swore i'd never play again. I joined my local pub team and we had a good run finishing 2nd in the league and losing in the final of the knock out. The winners of both were all staffordshire county players whose manager touted them close season round the pubs to get the best deal.

In the final we started at 7:30 and at 12pm it was 3 frames each when i finally got my cue out it's case. 4.5 hours for 6 frames, that averages 45 mins per frame.

Mine lasted all of 5 mins, i just wanted my bed.

Yeah, was probably a lot longer, come to think about it. Your story reminds me of a time long, long ago when I used to play cricket, and was required to umpire. The opening match of the 1990 world cup was just about to start and we were losing heavily, so I started to give my own teammates out LBW so I could clear off and watch the match. This didn't go down at all well, with some people refusing to speak to me to this day.
