Hi. My first time post here.My name is Ionut and i'm from Romania for those of you who don't know where that is , it's in SE Europe on the border with Russia.English (or American if you like it that way) is not my first language so you'll have to bare with me.

Ok.Now for the important stuff :), i have bought recently a Lucasi Lss-2 jump/brake cue and i don't get the results i was expecting from it, i know isn't a first hand brake cue ,but honestly i really wasn't expecting that much. The feel i have with it that is kinda slow, and i can't jump balls easy.My first thought on it was that the ferrule and the tip that came with the cue where the problem. The ferrule is aegis and the tip is Triangle and i think is medium, and for what i have read on the internet there are special ferrules and tips for breake/jump cues.I hope i have explaind it enough for you to understand and i will try to get some pictures of my cue so you can see better what i'm talking about.I have tones of questions for you but i will save them for later. The thing is that pool is very underdeveloped here, an example : there is only one pool related store in the entire country (22 milion people in my country).Thank you , i am waiting for your replyes.

Welcome to AzBilliards forum, i love it here with alot of info and great people.

Welcome aboard. Triangles are too soft for jumping. Switch the tip to a Sumo buffalo tip or other buffalo tip that has been pressed in a vice or a linen phenolic high power break/jump tip. The phenolic jumps easiest but you can't control the cue ball like you can with the Buffalo tip.

Well..all good and that, but the thing is ....can only a good tip be the answer to the cue problem of jumping, or should i change the ferrule also.I don't tknow if i mentioned this , i have the same kind of ferrule on the brake/jump cue as i have on my playing cue, i even think the shafts on the 2 cues are indentical, same ferrule same tip. What can i do?

I don't think you have a ferrule problem. A harder tip may help - such as a non-layered Water Buffalo or a phenolic tip.

Aegis ferrules are plenty hard. So are any of the white linen based ferrules. The tip should solve the problem.

Mr. Webb,

I've tried you idea. Well actually it's a ferrule/tip combo sitting on a shelf, as I haven't put it on anything yet. But mine is "different", it looks like a standard ferrule with a phenolic tip, but the phenolic is there, all the way through, I think you could figure it out :) . I might post pictures of it eventually, when I test it out.
At first, turning the tip down proved to be a problem (because of my brain flatulence) then I just glued it on a scrap dowel, and turned it (along with a little of the dowel) down, and just popped it off, and glued it in. It is a great idea, and thank you for sharing it with everybody here.

Thanks,

Jon

I build jump cues with solid brass ferrules. You would be amazed at the difference it makes. A harder tip will also help a lot.

Hey ,you have to have a hard tip...I have been jumping with a house cue whose tip is worn to where it is almost nonexistent (ferrel is just common plastic) ,just to put it in perspective. SO a good jump cue with a hard tip should be the ticket.

Maximillion : if i could do that i whould in a heart beat, but do you know how much is the minimum wage in my country, well i guess you don't, i share that to you it's 80$.I don't think i would have much action in my store :).

ps: how do i quote someone ? :)

Do you have much experience jumping

Triangle tips are pretty hard tips especially after they get broken in. I have one on my regular cue and jump full balls easily at anything over 15 inches. Maybe it's your technique and not the cue. It would be a shame to change the tip and still have the same problem. Just my opinion.

It is very true that i can't jump the ball with accuracy but i still can jump the ball, and i tryed a jump cue from one of my friends and the difference is huge. That's why i am asking these questions, as i noticed the ferrule of my friend jump cue is smaller and the tip harder.

Sorry about my reply then but before you go to the bother of a new tip you could try breaking 30 or 40 racks to get the tip broken in and see if that makes any difference. It's good practice anyway. They get harder the more you use them, that's for sure. Good luck whatever you do.
