Question about joint sizes

Lately, I've come across a lot of cues with joints that measure at, or around .850" in diameter and I was wondering why. How did the cuemakers on this forum decide upon the joint diameters that they are currently using?

Depends on how you'd like the cue to play. Steel pole stiff j/b's can be .875 or if you want it a bit whippier then use a Meucci like .815. Most settle for .840 - .855 range. Again...it just depends on what type performance you are looking for.
