Question about Joss Cues

I played with a Joss Cue last night and thought it was one of the best playing cues Ive ever used.

That being said, I want to buy one now but i dont think I can afford one just like the one i used last night. My question is: Are all Joss cues the same? If I buy a cheaper, less fancy Joss, will it still play the same?

A less fancy Joss should play similar but wood, especially shaft wood, will vary from cue to cue and make some difference. You could get a Joss sneaky and it just might play better!

Sounds like you are beginning the search for your perfect player that many here spend years and much money looking for. Happy hunting.
 
While you can expect one Joss cue to play pretty much like other Joss cues, even if you bought two identical Joss cues, I'll bet you could tell the difference in how the two of them played. Even when you buy a high dollar cue from a famous cue maker, if the cue has two shafts, you will find yourself liking how one shaft plays more than you like the other shaft. Even with identical tips on both shafts. If you took the Joss cue you played with and changed the tip, the stick might play quite differently. But one thing you can be pretty sure of is that the cheaper Joss cues are just as well made as the more expensive ones.
 
I have a couple of Joss cues

and I agree with the others. They are all well made. Also, any time I have had a problem Dan Janes has made it right, so if you get one that you think has a problem they will fix it. Highly recommended.

Make sure you get the specs on the cue you shot with before you try to match it:

was it 13.25 or 13mm shaft? Did it have a Triangle or some other tip. Those two things will make a difference. Also check the weight.

I know that in the past couple of years, the Joss internal structure design of the butt has changed (for the better) to a single piece. This should make the cue feel even more solid (like a single piece of wood) than before. So, if the cue you used was made in the past couple of years, then yes, it should feel the same.

That being said, the stock Joss shafts are pretty fat even though they have a pro taper (13.25 mm at the ferrule). A thickness change or a taper change like any cue will make it feel completely diffferent.

I play with a Joss myself, however, I would recommend using a low deflection shaft like a Predator.
 
I have awalys said that $ for $ they are the best playing cues, in general, some are better than others, for sure! but finding one for $300 or less or a bit more is easy. Hit balls with a few of them and you'll find one sooner than later that plays like you like it. I have awalys kept a Joss East as a back up cue or travelling cue, And I still do, i'm not playing much but I still have one I bought 2 years ago.

Hey Fred, what do you mean "single-piece"? They're no longer using finger-joints at the A-joint?

They core the cues. No joints, except the joint pin. One piece centre.
 
i really appreciate everyones input, it really helped in my decision making.

To all those who PMd me,

I am still looking at my finances and will respond within a week or so.....I have to discuss it with my wife:p

That is a 60 inch Color of Money copy that Dan made for me last year. It has two 12.5 mm shafts. The cue has been test hit only. PM for price if interested.
