Question About Layered Tips

Hey everybody. I've got a question. I bought a Viking cue almost a yr ago and it came with an Everest layered tip. About 4-5 mths after buying it, the tip failed and the layers started to sepperate. I got some advice that it maybe a bad tip and went with the Everest again. I've now had it for probably the same 5 mths, and the tip is now failing in the exact same way. The layers are again starting to sepperate. I never shape the tip with those scraping shapers. I have no idea what could be causing the failures. I love how the tip plays, but I'm not prepared to replace it every 4-5 mths. Any advice or suggestions on medium tips that aren't layered? Could I have possible received 2 bad tips some 5 mths apart? :mad:

Do you use a tip pik?
 
If you do no maintenance whatsoever, has the tip gotten a bit flat? If so, hitting on the edges of a layered tip that's gotten too flat is too much pressure on that edge, and can create problems, such as delamination.

By the way, replacing a tip a couple times a year is not generally considered excessive.
