Question about my new table

The balls pop back out of the pockets. Meaning they hit the back of the pocket and come back onto the playing surface. This is the second table I've had with leather drop pockets and both tables have done the same thing. Any suggestions? I'll post a pic of the table when I get off work.

Mine hardly ever do that..although the other day i had the 2 ball do it...was really weird! My pockets are not shimmed, but they are not tight either...sorta in between. Probably has to do with how the back of your pocket is cut. Can you post a picture?

Here are a few pics.

The back of the pocket should project the ball downward. Your pocket looks too flat in the back. I just looked at my Gold Crown and the backs of the pockest actualy have a pretty deep curve that shoots the ball right down into the pocket. That stiff piece of leather that is sewn into the back of you pockets will have to break in for a while from being hit with balls. Soon it should soften up and the balls should stop coming back at you. I also have an old table like yours with leather pockets and the backs of the pockets are very soft. The balls never come out if they hit the back of the pocket, they just stop and drop. The backs of your pockets may also be low and the balls are hitting the the leather covered metal part and bouncing back on the table. Either way, it is not the way it should be they should stay in. Should be fixable.

I just looked at my pockets. The upper lip on my pockets has that overhang, which is the reason the ball is directed down into to the pocket.

The picture of your pocket kinda shows the leather backstop to be thick & I can't see an overhang.

Good Luck ...

Is the pocket loose...is there a little play in it? If so..try to push the top part of the pocket from behind so that it angles downward toward the slate. You might have to jury rig the gap, (if you have one) with a cardboard shim or something else to hold it between the pocket and rail. Otherwise, loosen the rail some and see if you can angle the pocket and then retighten so that it maintains the position.

Mine's the same as I think ceebee is describing. The rounded ring at the top is about 1/4" further out than the flat leather.

If the ball goes in sort of fast, it hits the flat leather as it drops. If it goes in lightning fast, it hits the rounded leather and get knocked downward.

I've only had balls come back out when the pocket had several balls already in it - my stupidity.

I had a Brunswick Balke and Collender and it was the same way especially the side pockets. I can't believe no one has commented on my shitty slow cloth. The deal was, I get the table if my wife picks out the cloth. The place where I bought it didn't have colored Simonis. I have found some on the web and will change it whenever I get around to it.

I don't like the way the cloth is installed around the pocket but didn't want to say anything but it's pretty bad. The color isn't that bad, I used to play on a gray cloth and like it a lot. Now as far as the color of the carpet, just kidding.

I was looking at the picture and I think I know what is wrong. The web of the pocket looks too tight. If the tacks were taken out and the pocket allowed to be a little more loose in the back, (more of a sack type effect) then re tack it, It may solve the problem. The back of the pocket may be acting like a tennis racket when the ball hits it right now.

That carpet color is misleading. It doesn't look as bad as the photo. It's a very dark plum color. The pool table cloth is "olive"

I didn't want to be cruel, where did you get the cloth at a carpet shop? Any how I'm only kidding. Get the simonis as soon as you can you will love it. The table does look nice I hope you get your pocket situation work out as well.
One other thing, no jump shots toward that nice big screen in the background either.

IT must be your alll so smooth draw stroke that does this von!!!I have done this and actually made the ball sit on top of the pocket at the pool hall...

One corner on my buddies table used to spit balls out almost everytime I think it was the way the leater curled in at the back of the pocket it acted like a trampoline until it softened up some.
