Question about short change gambling

Hi all,

I was playing last night, and the guy I played wanted to play his version of 8 ball, I agreed and we played for $5 a game. Now he is some one that I can and have given 3 games in a race to 5, and usually come out on top.

Now the question, is it harder to player game than a race, and if so why??? I really would like to know what others have found in their experience.

Oh by the way I lost $5 total… But I feel confident that that is $5 well spent, and will make me far more at this club… They all like to see me loose (it's a Elks club, and there are really only two or three guys at or above C players, most are at best mid range Ds, in 4 years I have only seen other than me 1 break and run out), because they are mostly bangers. SO I think others h] who watched will want to play for a little cash.

I think one game is tougher than a race, yes. In one game, every mistake you make is potentially costlier - it can cost you that one game.

I play in a couple of local bar-banger-ish tournaments each week - and aside from the typical bar-style rules (which I generally loathe), the tournament is run double-elim, *one* game per match. They run one game to keep the tournament moving and to get it done with at a decent hour (one starts at 7pm, the other 8pm).

All it takes is one bad mistake to lose a match, as I found out last night. I won my first match, but barely - and lost the next two, nearly as barely - due to a combination of 1) only having one game to work with, and 2) the goofy bar rules (got to call all caroms, no safeties). If I'd had even a race to two, and more normal rules, I would tear most of the guys in these tournaments up more consistently. But alas! :)
