Alternatively, billiard refers to a shot where the cue ball is caromed off of an object ball with the intent to strike another object ball. The shot is referred to as a billiard even if no cushions are contacted in the interim.
I'm not familiar with the game of billiards or the game of caroms so I won't venture to comment on either. But I think these definitions apply within the context of asbani's original post.
