QUESTION ABOUT TEMPERATURE AND ITS AFFECT ON A CUE

suppose you left a wood cue in its case in your car (i know you shouls not do that)
does anyone know up to what temperature at both extremes hottest and coldest
and for how long
can a cue survive those conditions and and not be damaged?
am i correct to assume carbon fiber cues/shafts would be immune?

Although I would never recommend doing it, I've kept a Meucci sneaky pete in the trunk of my car, here in Florida, for the better part of 30 years. Temperature is well over 100° to freezing.

Both butt and the original shaft roll straight apart, with a barely discernible roll when together, with the tip coming up maybe a 16th of an inch.

I have no idea how that happens.

I would've thought that the damn thing would look like a piece of macaroni!

Cars can get very hot indeed (childern and pets die every year from being locked in hot cars in the summer) so it's definently something you should try to avoid. Obviously the same is true for cold temperatures.

You want to be careful screwing together a cue that has been brought in from the cold. Lived in Idaho Falls ID and saw a nice Joss West cue come apart one evening. It was cold, around zero, the cue was brought in to the room and screwed together tight. The owner used it to break and some time later when he did the ivory joint shattered.

All material is subject to expansion and contraction with a change in temperature. Different materials more or less so than others.
