Question about the spot I got / changing it

9andout

Gunnin' for a 3 pack!!

I lost a couple races to 5 playing my friend even. 5-1, 5-2. He plays pretty strong.
He then offered me the 5and out.
I won 5-3, and 5-2.
What should the spot change to so we are closer to even next time? 6and out??
Sound obvious but I'm new to playing with weight.
Was happy to get my cash back though!!! $$$

The last two or three tops. The 5 and out is a tough spot to overcome, but if he wants to give that to you then just take his money.

If he's really your friend, you have tell him him he's not going to get any better unless he pushes himself. No better way than having your back against the wall. Keep the spot. For his own good.

Yeah......and 9&O will be paying his mortgage payment and grocery bills when it comes to that or he could just lose a friend.

Assuming you're playing 9-ball the 5-out is a big spot but going from losing 1.5-5 to winning 5-2.5 I am not sure it is THAT big.
Do you think something other then the spot also happened? As in you played bad the first sets and good the last sets?

All thing equal I would adjust to the last 3 and take it from there.

I like the last 3 idea.

When I play with good friends, we sometimes adjust after every set one way or the other. While someone may have a good stretch and will two or three set in a row, sooner or later the spot will settle in to where it's supposed to be and no one gets hurt.

Pool is kinda like poker in regards to gambling...you have to bet something just to keep score and make you play hard. Having that been said though, no one needs to take a bloodbath...especially playing with friends.

A little longer race with games on the wire.

2 games in a race to five would sound about right.

If he able to run more than 2 racks, then get the wild 8 and the breaks would also seem fair to me. Keeps him from stringing racks on you, and you got two balls you can make on the break to win a game.

Thanks all. I'm sure we'll settle in on a good combination of the above recommendations.
Lucky for me we can't play again for a few weeks..... Practice time!

Figuring out spots for other people are hard to gauge for me unless I can see the players. From the short races and the lopsided scores I would guess the wild 7 and 8 with both of you racing to the same game count, should be close. But again, without knowing either of you or watching you play, its a guess only. Hard to handicap short races, because anything can happen. Play at least a race to 9 with the wild 7 & 8 and see if thats not pretty close for you guys.

You should always start even and go slowly down from there. Your friends mistake was going too low too fast. That will send you home busted and disgusted. Trust me, been there.... LOL
