Greetings, Ladies and Gents!

The cue in the attached photos belonged to my late father. Before he passed away, he told me that this was a valuable Adams cue; however, I have not found any markings anywhere on the cue to indicate who the maker was. It dates back to the 1950's or 1960's. What do you think? Does it look familiar? Any ideas on what it is? I want to sell it, but need to provide a good description before putting it up for sale, so I need your help. Thanks for your assistance.

IMHO
Your selling your fathers cue.....I'd think he wanted you to keep it if he had told you about it and how it was so very valuable to him.
And at the same time if your in a pinch for cash I'd think he would want you to sell it but remember it was one of his valued possessions.
If the cue won't sell for much I'd keep it.

It looks to be an Adam A/H-7 "Carlton." I know they were sold in the early 1970's, but I don't know about before then.

AtLarge, I think you nailed it.

To the OP, Adams cues generally don't sell for very much and I've seen similar cues go recently for between 75-200 dollars, which is about where the market is for a cue like that.

It's a nice, classic cue and you could probably get rid of it quite easily, but personally, I would hold onto it for sentimental value. I only wish I could have a chance to find a cue that belonged to my father.

Did Adams not put any signature or mark on their cues?

First off these guys advice is spot on.

The joint pin is the signature, trust me. Anyone that knows cues will know that pin.

For nearly no money, you could send the cue to Proficient Billiards (Scot), or to (Ryan) at Meullers and have the cue refinished and a new wrap.

For $100 you would be AMAZED at how nice the cue will look and feel.

Then as the guys above mentioned you should keep the cue. The $200 or so the cue is worth isnt going to make you or break you and you will have a great reminder of your dad.

IF you insist on selling that cue, having it refinished will probably be a wash (it will sell for more but you will have more in it). To me, there is no risk, I would have it refinished.

JMO.

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

Many of their cues have a lion logo. My A/H-7, like yours, has no logo, signature, stamp, etc.

Cindy still has her Adams from the early 70's...a merry widow style, it originally had a small gold foil sticker with the lion logo on the butt cap...that's long gone, of course.

That said...put me among those who suggest that the original poster keep his father's cue. As he ages, he won't regret having done so.

Thank you all! You've been most helpful and informative. My dad, in his day, was well known around pool halls from washington, d.c., to san francisco. His original pool cue was mounted in a glass case in a pool hall in washington many years ago, where it still might be today (if only we knew the name of the place). Antiques roadshow was quite right when they referred me to this site. You people know your stuff.

I'm glad this board could help...and I hope you decided to keep the cue. If you'd like, mention your father's name. There are some here who might remember him and be able to give some memories. That might be better on a specific thread.
