OK, I have mentioned in the past that I was not much of a gambler and the few money games that I do play I dont ask for spots or anything like that.

One thing I am confused with, when I person says "I will give you the 8 and the break" does that mean the opponent only has to play up to the 8 ball? where as the other guy hs to play to the 9? Also say for instance the guy giving the spot plays up to the 8 and makes it but misses the 9 and leaves you awful, do you have to shoot it or since he gave you "the 8 and the break" you already won.

Same thing when people getting the 7 ball, does the guy get the 7 out, or just the seven ball. If it is just the 7 ball, how does this help over getting the 8 ball?

you get the 8

usually when I give someone the 8 then that means THEY have to sink the 8 or 9 to win. If it is already down then you have to sink the 9.

When someone gives you the 7 it is a little easier because the 7 comes up sooner than the 8.

The following terms can be found in the book "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Billiards" by Shamos and the links below.

Examples of spots given or asked for:

"I'll take the 7 and 2 on the wire."
"I need the seven and the breaks."
"I'll take the 6 and the breaks."
"Give me the 5 and the breaks and 2 on the wire in a race to 3."
"I'll take the 6 and the breaks."
"I`ll take the 7,8,9 spot"
"I'll take the 7,8 and the snap from Billy Bob for $50 a pop."
"I gave him the call 8 and the last 2 in a race to 9 for a dime a set."
"I want 9 to 8 and the breaks for 7 dollars a game and another dollar or so on the rail."
"I offered him 2 banks spot in a race to 5."
"I offered him the 7 ball."
"How about the wild 8 and the breaks?"

$1 = Jellybean
$5 = Fin
$10 = Sawbuck
$20 = Double sawbuck
$100 = Buck, C Note
$500 = Nickel
$1000 = Dime

OK, so let me get this straight, if I am offered the 7 and the break. I only have to run out to the 7.

So if I pocket the 7 on the snap, do I only run out to the 6?

You win if you're getting the 7 and you make it on the break. If you get the 7 out, that means you can make the 7,8, or 9 on the break and win. If you're getting the last 2, then whatever ball is left with the 9, then those are your money balls, Peace, John.

Usually when offered that spot, the 7 is wild unless specially said for
it to be the 'called' 7.

On a wild 7 and the breaks, if you make 7 on the break, you win.
If you combo or carom the 7 in with the 1,2,3,4,5, or 6 ball, you win.

You break every time. The 7 is just like the 9 for winning, in effect 2 balls
to win the game.

If called 7 ball, you have to call the 7 for a particular pocket on the break
for it to win, and you have to call pocket for any combo or carom on it.
The 9 plays as usual.
