Dear Mr. Fisher,
Oh gracious me. Too many people in bed with too many people. But that’s life. My position is that of an ‘independent collector’. Not speaking for anyone else, I will say that for me, if I buy a cue from unknown maker,
or otherwise, and the product is pleasing to me, I will state my opinion about it.
I will be honest, and say, speaking for myself, if on the contrary, the product was not ‘up to snuff’…
I would not go out of my way to inform anyone of this… because my subjective opinion is not enough to potentially
harm that makers reputation. On the other hand, if someone knew that I had a particular cue, and
Inquired to me about it, I would give him my honest personal opinion, because not to do so, would be
dishonest to the would be buyer, but preface clearly, this to be my personal opinion as it pertains to
my personal taste in hit, construction, cosmetic appeal, etc..
An example… I had personally never heard of craftsman out of the UK, but was turned on
to them by a good friend in the UK… I was a bit hesitant at first, (not knowing anything about them), went
ahead and took the advice, and really liked the cue. I have owned and still own, several cues from many
of the top makers, but felt compelled to list the craftsman (without being asked to do so), and I expressed
my positive comments toward it. The fact that I posted my opinion about this maker certainly didn’t take away
from my good feelings towards other makers that I own, or have owned. This is an ‘action’ example that what I say is true.
Having said this, it needs to be stated that I am not a dealer, nor do I represent in any way, the interest
of any particular maker or dealer. If I were, I would, perhaps, have to re-think my position, and I am not sure
where that would take me, but not being in that position, there is no need for me to contemplate that scenario.
Suffice it to say that if these buyers are non dealers, or do not have an exclusivity arrangement, for them not
to express there positive feedback, is a dis-service to you, a hard working new maker trying to create a good honest
name for yourself. By not taking that extra step, in my opinion, is disheartening. But to say that if you did
post there name, they would ‘slam your cues’, that is inexcusable, and vengeful, and I would personally never
do business with folks like that. I would like to wish to you, the very best of luck, and I would suggest that you post a few sample photos your product, descriptions, spec, cost overview, warranty, brief history of yourself, terms and delivery time, etc. etc. . If your cues play well, have some aesthetic appeal, and if the price is reasonable, believe that it will not be long for your works to be desirable, and your name will most certainly begin to be observed. My thinking is that with whatever we do in life, if it is done with hard work, persistence, honesty, integrity and with due diligence, success will surely follow. Kind Regards, Brett
