I've been to the BCA in Vegas but this is my first time to the VNEA. I heard that tee shirts and shorts are allowed but nothing was said about sweats or wind pants. Can anyone tell me
Thanks, J2R

I was there for it in late june early july last year and when i was there then the dress was very casual and there was really noone moderating or checking so i know i wore wind pants and sweats at night so i am sure you can also

casual affair

The VNEA is a pretty casual affair. It was some years back I was working there. There was a really fun ladys team from Malaysia. They didn't play so well, but it sure was fun having them stop by the booth and they bought alot. The VNEA is a fun affair it is international you meet a lot of different people. People will show up at your match with a snooker cue. It's a lot of fun Partying with all at the Splash Bar.

bca vs vnea

Thats funny. Ill be the one playing with a snooker cue.

Dont forget, us Aussies dont have your american tables over here, so we are not use to the big balls. So go easy on me!

In all seriousness, the vnea was nothing like the BCA. People were playing in what ever they wanted. Turning up late for games etc. Dont get me wrong it was still well run, but just not as precise as the earlier tournament.

If you see me, say gday. I may just be wearing the shirt i own with BALLS MODELLS on it.

Cheers

Dave

Smoking issue

The Smoking is bad there. It creates a very unhealthy room to play in especially team event.Partly why it has declined in numbers..Many people who used to go won't go anymore until smoking is dealt with and is like many other quality tournaments..otherwise it the second biggest event behind BCAPL. Its a party.........

if you dont like smoke dont play pool or go to pool rooms or bars or anywhere. I have been there and with it in a room of 200 tables the smoke is not an issue lol and it is just ridiculous to mention that lol . How do you walk through the casino do you crawl and stay close to the ground

Lawman you are out to lunch if not more.... ive played that VNEA tourny for 16 years and this is the first time i will not play it only because of the how bad the smoking is. i used to have a blind eye to it like you do now but the reality is that is bad even the VNEA Brass know this because i was at one of the meetings... they don't do it because Charter venders sell cigs around the counrty and they think it will look bad to them..........

After playing in many of the big tournaments most are not smoking now and for a good reason. If you smoke sorry. I have lost 3 people this past 15 months to lung cancer all smoked. An uncle and tw friends. Do your research on 2nd hand smoke before you go off sounding like well you know what!! its a shame people believe it is ok!!

I have never been to this tournament, but I recently spoke with somebody who has. He is a smoker, and he termed the atmosphere "Brutal"

I have been going to this tournament for 13 years and everyone has a different outlook on the amount of smoke it takes to be uncomfortable. I believe one of the tournament rooms was non-smoking last year. I could be wrong, but it still was not as bad as all that. I don't smoke, but most of my team does.
As far as the dress code goes, punch VNEA on a search engine and check the website. It's not like the BCA at all. Shorts are ok as long as the legs are hemmed. No swimsuits. Sweats are ok too. Best of luck at the tourney. Sam

The dress code is here:

Tournament Dress Code

All participants in the 26th Annual Int’l Championships must comply with the following dress code:

No Halter Tops • No Midriffs • No Cut-Offs • No Swimwear • No Tube Tops • No Tank Tops • No Improper Verbiage

All shorts must be clean, neat, presentable, hemmed and of proper length to be allowed. Rugged cut-offs will not be allowed.

All players, during their scheduled matches, will present themselves in a neat and clean appearance.

Tournament Officials will have the right to ask any player or spectator not properly attired to leave the playing area.

As for the smoking I never noticed it. Usually your eyes start burning in a place with no smoke etters. I don't know maybe they had better ventilation last year than in the past.

VNEA and Smoking

This will be my 7th year going to vegas for the various leagues (APA, BCA, VNEA)

While smoking is prohibited at the BCA, try walking down that hallway. It is like walking into a smoke tunnel. Since you are allowed to smoke right outside the doors of the room everyone stands and blocks the doors so they can watch while smoking.

It is not as bad as you might think. Put it this way, it is better that any pool hall I have ever been in.

JMO.

see you all in vegas for VNEA

The hall way at BCAPL is real bad more on the criminal side. Peoples addiction to smoking makes this situation. But the BCAPL brass want to deal with this issue and have been working with the casino to change this. By a improved vent system and if that doesn't work they will likely take the "no smoking" and put it out side. The VNEA brass, last i heard, was doing nothing about smoking at their event...different......

The BCAPL and VNEA are the two biggest pool events in the world. I went to the VNEA event for 15 years and BCA for 11 years, Last year BCAPL had over 6500 different players & Vnea had 5500 entries. These are the best options for amateur pool.

I only qualified for VNEA once because after that year, there were no local places to qualify, so I have been doing only BCA since. The cool part about VNEA Internationals is that when I did go, I got 2nd (just a hung 7 ball in 9ball (no 8 ball) away from victory :o )

I also like the International flavor - playing people from all over the globe. And I liked their Suds and Chips mixers!

I remember the smoke - atrocious. If the smokers block the hall and entry, like at regionals, I just hold my breath and walk fast.

I don't remember the dress code, I always try to look nice, therefore, shorts was out of the question, lol. :p
