question for case makers

I'm getting ready to try and make my first case. How much leather should I look at ordering?

This is what I'm looking at getting here for the leather.

That piece is cutting it close. It says 48" long and 6-8 sq ft so it is only 18-24" wide. Just enough for the body of a 2x4 if you want pockets and straps you will need more leather. I buy leather by the side check tandy they have great deals. Save some money and buy the cheaper leather see if you enjoy making cases and invest in the more expensive leather later. Plus you will have enough for 2 more cases and you can make your money back or make one for your friends.
