Hello to all my fellow pool and billiard lovers / and oh yes snooker too/ does anyone know what the threads are in the top butt end of an original 1970's palmer cue/
I made a great buy on e bay / but when the stick arrived it was only the butt / then I checked the original listing and sure enough it did say Butt only so the opps was totally mine / now I am on a mission to find one and even two shafts that will correctly not only fit on the plamer butt but also have the exact / precise OD
any advice or help in any way will be greatly appreciated / yours truely Nickynewark .

I would send the cue to a cue maker and have them build a shaft with matching ring work. Probably your best and easiest avenue to take.

The pin is 5/16 x 18.

Getting an exact match to a 70s Palmer is not an easy task.

Your best bet is to get someone with a micrometer or .001 calipers to
accurately measure the joint diameter - for a start.

If the joint pin is not perfectly centered, you will not get a perfect fit.

There are dozens, perhaps even hundreds of cue makers/repairers, who
are capable of making a shaft with the fit you want.

Many of them visit these forums regularly.

You might want to make a post in 'Ask the Cuemaker'.

He just made me a shaft with matching collars for an old Palmer I have, 1st class work overall.

If you post a pic I might have an older palmer shaft that I could sell you if the collars and rings are the same.

But to directly answer your question the previous poster was correct, the pin is a 5/16x18.

Good luck.

From your screen name I'm wondering if you hung on the Ave or maybe the neck?

Or I could be reading it wrong.
