Hey-I had no break at all until I bumped into this $79 Ball Buster-now I can at least get a few balls to come down toward the other end of the table!!:p

In fact-my old Eight Ball break looked like most guys One Pocket break:D

Doc Johnny is a hell of a guy and you got yourself one hell of a Dad!!

Andy-I am seriously thinking about buying 10 or 15 of those break cues and selling them for $90 including shipping. If Doc Johnny can hit that One Ball dead center at any speed - I guarantee his break will be better than it was before.

Seriously - my break, as you know, was actually always pretty good. I made a ball or two and whitey normally stopped in a workable location. But, as you may also remember, I also always said I didn't think a "Break Cue" would make that much difference.

Then - I got this CBB (Chinese Ball Buster) and didn't even know if I was supposed to Tip Pik it or what...:o (What the hell do I know  - I play 1P and Straight Pool and thats it) So I chalk er up & let er rip and - HOLY SHEET  !!

Balls go flying! - a couple of balls drop, the cue ball is setting in the middle of the table and the balls are so spread out - Stevie Wonder or Jose Feliciano can run out !!

It almost makes me want to play 9 Ball more often........

But, as I always said - you just meet a better class of people playing 1Pocket:D

Take care of yourself.

Nate says hello!!

There is an initial on the cue which could be a "C" or an "E" and I can't really tell what brand it is. However-I contacted my friend in Portland, who purchases these wholesale, and if he'll sell them to me at a decent price-I'll turn around and sell them to any AZBer at that "$91 includes shipping" price. I should know tomorrow. They look pretty decent and they sure mix the balls up pretty good. What is the best weight for a break cue? This one I have feels like about a 19 oz.

I am not saying that your friends in-expensive cue is no good. But I own an X-Breaker and it is unbeliveable how it just CRUSHES the Balls. In my opinion it is well worth the extra money to buy the QUALITY X-Breaker. I used to own a Fury Jump Break but sold it and bought my X-BRAKER.

best weight is really more of a preferance thing, though science says its the lighter end at about 18-19 oz, though theres still people that prefer 20-21 oz and up. but as i said, is really more a matter of personal preferance as most things are with equipment. personally, my current breaker is a pre cutec exaliber i picked up at sports authority for 30 bucks and threw a tiger saber-t ferrule and white diamond tip on. with the weight bolt removed it weighs in at a slim 17 oz.

I'll say this, I love using a heavier cue when breaking. I find that you can get the same results by doing less with a heavier cue because the weight of the cue is doing the work, instead of having to swing the lighter cue faster.

the Brent Hartman cue I am using for breaking comes in at 22.25oz's and thats with no weight bolt too. But wow it breaks great.

But its totally personal preference.

Is There Such A Thing As A "Break Shaft"?

Is there a shaft made specifically for breaking, 13.5 mm with a phenolic tip, that you could hook up to the butt of your choice? That seems like it would be the way to go.

seyberts.com sells the predator BK2 shaft with a uniloc joint on thier website and will custome fit them through thier shop.

I've got the PJ BEM from a local Phoenix builder that weighs 17.7 without the weight bolt and has a 3/8-10 pin. Since it makes sense to me that a lighter cue could be accelerated quicker-I might try track down a break shaft with a phenolic tip that has that 3/8-10 connection. Those Tiger X shafts are usually available up to 13.3 or so - a Tiger break tip on one of their 13.3 X's make more for a lot of fun.

Also-since I only have minimal $$$ in the Chinese Ball Buster-it might be fun to see if I can take weight out of that cue.

As you can see - I've got more $$$ than sense and a little bit of time on my hands too!!:p

Break Cues are a GREAT piece of equipment.

Most of the Break Cues made, do a splendid job. None of them are MAGIC to everyone, but they are to the person that plays with them.

I don't like Break/Jump Cues, I personally like specialized equipment.
I agree. I have a cue for each purpose. That way I am not sacrificing performance for convenience. JMHO.
