question on rules

sharking or otherwise

I tend to agree with what everybody's said so far. First, if he seems to be unscrewing his cue, he's unscrewing his cue, and it's a concession. Second, once the referee makes the call, the call is made, and the rack is over. Third, the rack should've been continued rather than re-racked, especially with two easy shots to go.

On th'other hand, I know a lot of players who fidget, especially with their cues, usually not in front of the player shooting. That's the real question I have on this one. Was the opponent visible to the shooter when he made the unscrewing motion? It's not sharking if you can't see it.

Frequently when i'm heading back to the table, I unseat and reseat the pin in my cue so I can be sure it's rock solid before I stroke. Obviously if i'm doing it on my shot I'm not conceding that way, but I have to be sure to keep the cue out of my hands when i'm not shooting because it's become a nervous tic as well as pre-run routine. I say pre-run rather than pre-shot because I don't do it between shots, just before the first shot back at the table.

I am just wondering if this would be considered sharking. I was playing in the open 8-ball Tourny in Las V.. I Broke, Sunk 1 of the break and ran the table. Every time that I sank a ball the guy would say F**k. The more he said it the happier I got. When the game was over I turned around looked the guy in the eyes and said F**k.

The guys team-mates were roll'n on the floor. **NO hand shake**, and I offered, because you have to be a sport some times

Other then this one guy, I have to say, it was one of the best times that I have ever had.

Good post! I try hard not to concede anything and don't expect anyone to do it for me, no matter the skill level of the person I'm playing. As I said in my previous post, if you play for money as long as some of us have, you see it all at one time or another. I've had much more subtle moves pulled on me that only worked that one time.

That's right, once a move is sucessfully pulled on you just try to make it a positive. So the next time it happens you are mentally prepared.

Now when someone I am playing will not sit down in tournament play, I play slower just to torture them and imagine their knees buckling or ask them to take a seat, if they won't then I may just stand there until they take the hint. It's rude to your opponent to be hovering over top of them, pulling for them to miss.

I still concede shots as a sign of respect and expect the same. If they don't give me any back, I just use it as motivation and try to remember not to give them any the next time. They best way to shark me and turn off my competitive instincts is to be a respectful and courteous player. I love to beat people with bad attitudes.

yes, they were at opposite ends of the table. also the referee was at behind the shooter and easily saw the other player starting to unscrew his cue. we still in the same 10 ball tournament and we kicked their a** last night!
