Question? Should Jeanette Lee Forfeit Game???

Two things here:

1. The rules should be updated to include a female dresscode
2. Yes, she still should be disqualified if any player complained.

There is policy and everyone should have to follow without exception. They obviously created this strict dress code for the tournament for a reason. Unfortuneately, they cut off their nose despite their face. If they did not disqualify her, then their dress code is meaningless if you look at without emotions. I bet that if a very handsome man wanted to dress differently he would be disqualified or at least required to change his dress...so why not mrs. lee.

The reason for the dress code is to recognize and honor the game of 3 cushion. That is the proper way to dress in tournament play when playing three cushion.

I don't really understand what it is you're complaining about. If you have a problem with her then don't look!!

Instead of picking on such a beautiful and talented person, why don't you appreciate what she can do on the table and maybe you'll learn a thing or two to improve your game..

I can't speak for anyone here but myself, but some of the things I love about billiards are the apparent senses of class and decorum by which it distinguishes itself from much of the pool world. The 'Carom Billiards' section of the AZBilliards forum seems to have thus far honored this tradition nicely, and as such I'd thank you to do your part in continuing that progress by thinking through carefully what you're writing before you come across as an ass.

Actually my thought/feeling. Congratulation on your engagement.

And I quote from the dress code manual:
The final decision concerning the acceptance of the clothing will be of the responsibility of the UMB delegate.

If they don't have a problem with it then she's fine.

Nuff said!

Beautiful Grand Daughter

Collection Guru, my avatar is my granddaughter. Myself I'm male 59 and been playing pool since the middle Fifty.

I respect Jeanette Lee as a Player [I believe she competed in all game of Billiard, Snooker been a ???.] and as a promoter of this game I love.

The question is Dress code stated by the SL Tournament, in the USBA Rule, and UMB Rule. I noticed Mercedes Gonzalez [other female] is Following the Dress code. Even Sang Lee 's daughter follow the dress code when she was playing in the Junior 3 Cushion Tournament.

With a Women 3 Cushion Tournament been held at the Debry City Classic 2008. This issue should be clarity.

I AM 62 AND STALK THE WPBA TOUR FOR THEIR PLAY AND FRIENDSHIP OF MANY PLAYERS. I AM A HUGE FAN OF POOL( BIG BUTT); MEN AND WOMEN'S POOL. I THINK PROFESSIONALISM IS TERRIFIC BUT THINK WE MIGHT WONDER WHY WE LET LOW CLASS PLAYERS LIKE STRICKLAND GO THROUGH HIS ACT FOR YEARS AND BEGIN TO FOCUS ON A YOUNG LADY WHO IS CLASSY AND A GREAT AMBASSADOR OF POOL. THE WPBA HAS IMPLEMENTED A DRESS CODE THAT ATTEMPTS TO IMPROVE THE PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE OF THE PLAYERS ESPECIALLY IN THE EARLY ROUNDS FROM OUTFITS THAT MADE EVEN THIS IDIOT WONDER WHY THEY WOULD DRESS LIKE THAT. I RECOGNIZE THAT I AM BIASED FOR PEOPLE LIKE JEANETTE, ALLISON FISHER, KAREN CORR, MONICA WEBB, KELLY FISHER, GY YOUNG KIM, ETC. BUT WOULD RATHER WATCH THEM PLAY THEN EARL RIDICULING COUNTRIES, PLAYERS, FANS, ETC.

WE BOTH CARE AND AS A FOSSILE HAVE SEEN THE SPORT GROW IN CLASS FROM THE JOHNSON CITY DAYS WHERE THEY WORE COAT AND TIES AND WOULD STEAL YOUR COFFEE.

From my point of view this is not about Jeanette Lee. It's not about being a prude. It's not about liking what a person wears or not. It's about the rules. The rules are clear and yes the director has the final say, like it or not. It's the rule. If I were the director I'd not disqualify her since I believe it would put a put a black mark on this tournament. I'd ask her to abide by the rule. Either change at her nest break if possible or be sure the following day she dressed according to the rule.

The rule is there, again in my opinion, to respect the game and no one is bigger than the game. The National and International organizations have agreed that certain dress code will help maintain a high level of respect and elegance for this game. Like it or not.

I my good friend Harry Sims was forced to remove a toothpick from his mouth right in the middle of a game with Ceulemans. Harry was winning at the time when Ceulemans objected. The ruling shook Harry up so much it affected his game. I know he felt to the day he died he would have won the match if it weren't for the toothpick ruling. This is one of the reasons I'd be careful handling the dress code with Jeanette. We all want her to excel at this game, we love the fact that she's in it, and root for her to win unless of course I'm playing her.

They are probably wanting the women to dress like Karen Corr does in so many matches. In pants and a womens blazer or something. But in pool, everyone knows vague rules will cause a ton of loopholes and complaints. The dress code that "billiardshot" attached seems to be addressing men since they must wear a tie and vest. I think asking Jeanette to change discreetly would keep the integrity of the tournament. We dont want another Jean Balukas incident! The game lost one of its best over a $200 ruling. We hope that type of thing never happens again. Just my $.02.

But Sanchez is OK?

I agree. Her attire is not appropriate.

He wore his vest and tie but had torn jeans on Friday night. So is the issue what could be seen in the camera view?

Bill O, since I wasn't at the Tournament, only view it by CaromTV. You decide if the Dress Code was enforced. There was Sleeves Suspenders, Yellow Ruler Suspenders - but then Suspenders aren't cover under Dress Code????

Maybe Sang Lee International Tournament and USBA should adopt or borrow these Dress Code and Rules from Artistic Pool & Trick Shot Association. Especially under [3. Dress Code], a., #vii below.

3. Dress Code

a. All professional tournaments have a 'Relaxed' Black-Tie dress code.

i. The recommended wear is tuxedo pants, tuxedo shirt, dress shoes, dress socks, bow tie, and either a tuxedo vest or a cummerbund.

ii. Players have the option of replacing the tuxedo pants with BLACK dress slacks.

iii. Players have the option of replacing the tuxedo shirt with a dress shirt. A bow tie is still required so if a regular dress shirt is used, it must accommodate a bow tie.

iv. Sweater vests are not allowed. If the player chooses to wear a vest instead of a cummerbund, it must be a tuxedo-style vest.

v. Women will be required to dress in formal-wear, or follow the above guidelines.

vi. Hats, visors, aprons, etc, will not be allowed. These do not conform with a black tie dress code.

vii. APTSA reserves the right to make all final decisions on dress code issues. This includes approving, under special circumstances, and with proper advance notice, certain minor violations of this dress code.

b.The dress code for women (at professional tournaments) is as follows:

i. Dress slacks or a long skirt (nothing above the knee).

ii. Dress blouse (vest optional).

iii. Alternatively, a semi-formal dress may be worn (nothing above the knee)

iv. Alternatively, a business suit may be worn. A dress blouse must be worn with the suit, and if a skirt is part of the suit, it must be below the knee.

v. All colors for slacks / skirt / jacket / dress must be dark colors. Black (preferred), navy, burgundy, etc. No bright colors.

vi.The blouse may be of any color. If a vest is worn, it may be of any color and design.

vii. It is preferred that all slacks / skirt / jacket / dress be solid colors. No fancy patterns (except on optional vest). If patters are worn, it should be subtle and also dark colors.

viii. No open toe shoes.

c. Amateur and qualifier tournaments will have the following dress code:

i. Dress slacks, dockers, or neat jeans (no rips).

ii. Collared shirt, or dress shirt. No t-shirts. No offensive pictures or words may be on the shirt.

iii. Dress shoes, casual shoes, or neat sneakers. No sandals. Women may wear open-toe shoes but they may not be sandals.

iv. Socks are required unless open-toe shoes are worn.

d. Players who show up to play and are in violation of the dress code will be notified by the tournament director. That player WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY UNTIL THEY MEET THE DRESS CODE.

i. Matches will not be held up if a player shows up and is not dressed properly. The player will be treated as ?missing? until he returns in proper dress.
