Could be various reasons. Probably as many as you could get if you reversed the question.

First time and wanted to try a weaker division?
 
I would guess so they don't have to get run over by teams full of masters players that stay under the radar. And it's probably the same reason they play league. To be able to drink, have fun and not take the game too serious.
