Questions for Mike Dechaine

Are you really as cocky as they say? lol

I don't know many people that are great at anything that aren't cocky to an extent. 10 years ago you were pretty cocky lol, but I enjoyed taking you around.

One Time on the One Time!

Good playin bro

Do you rig the rack like everybody's been saying?

No, what I believe the players were upset about was me asking them to re-rack. I know a lot of information about the rack and I am going to use it. I have to to be able to compete these guys. Also, some of the players say this to try to start a conflict with me and all I can do is smile because they didn't ask a ref to come over once to re-rack one of my racks.

Its unfortunate that this is such a big issue in the game. Every tournament should be rack your own with the 9 not counting.

I am very cocky, but I feel like I have to be. I have experienced a lot from other players in this sport. If i wasn't the way I am, I probably would have gave up a long time ago. Sometimes I do go over bored, but I have been trying to control it. I like to have fun and sometimes people don't see that I am just joking with some of the things I say.

Thank you.

Nice shooting, Mike.

That's exactly how I feel. If you get a mud rack, you did it to yourself. A whole lot of pool at the top level is about knowledge. If you have more knowledge about something than you opponent, well, as they say "knowledge is power"!

Cool thread. Thanks for your openness.

What's something that has elevated your game the most? What sort of drills would you recommend for cue ball control and pattern selection?

Thanks!

Actually, what you are saying is a sign of insecurity. But do you really need to be so cocky as great as you play? Why can't you just let the stick do the talking? Just sit there without showing so much emotion every time a roll goes against you, or when someone gets lukcy, etc. Be a silent assassin. That would put the fear of God into most players because of how good you play. There's a difference between cocky and confident. If you wouldn't be so cocky you'd be one of my favorite players.

This is not a pitch to predator, but finding a cue that I love has really helped me out. I have been battling this for a long time, but have now found something I love.

I felt like I controlled myself this past weekend. Maybe I didn't explain it that well. I am cocky when I am put in a situation to be cocky. If i feel like I am being attacked, then thats when it happens.

BTW, I am insecure, VERY!!!

Cool thread Mike next time I'm in a ring game at the Derby I won't let a certain someone not let ya jump in.....I wouldn't mind losing a few.

How many hours a week do you practice? Do ya do drills?

Hey guys, thank you for the congrats:smile:.

I would like to share some info with you. I see that there were a lot of questions in the other thread and I would like to answer them.
Hi Mike,

Congrats on winning Turning Stone.

What aiming system(s) do you use?

Not as much as I should, but I hope to change that soon. I play in a wednesday night tournament at Snookers and I play matches when they come around. Other than that, I haven't played that much.

Mosconi Cup prediction :)

Thanks for taking time to come on here and post Mike. I watched one of your first matches at the latest Turning Stone, then heard you commentate right after that, and then watched your last game against Putnam. Congratulations on your win.

I was curious about your racking process and was hoping you could elaborate. Lots of times I saw you push the balls up with the triangle and quickly remove it after you set the head ball. In your case, does that seem to be the most efficient way to get a snug rack? Were the balls/racks/cloth tough at this tournament to get the rack the way your opponents wanted? When they brought up an issue with your rack, were you able to spot what they saw, or did you not care and just try to re-rack it?

I'm not anywhere near your level of play, but i'm sure several pros have similar issues with wanting a good rack at those events. Just curious what your thoughts were..thanks.
