We've been wanting to get a pool table for years, just these last few months being completly serious about it and mesuring up. The room is about 30ft by 14ft. That's not good... And to make matters worse, to get it to be 14ft wide, we'd have to knock out a chimnie that goes right up through the house. So, what we decided to do is get an outdoor pool table by allweatherbilliards! Our desision is final and we will probably be buying it in a couple of weeks. Here is the table and site: http://www.allweatherbilliards.com/professional_9_foot_table_by_all.htm

Like I said, we will definately be buying it, but I'd just like to know the downsides... I know if it was raining out I couldn't play, but to be honest I'd trade having to use small cues all the time for that any day... and the cloth, sunbrella... will it be reasonably fast? And the cues... will they warp or anything if it's really warm or humid outside? I'm going to buy a predator so this could be really expensive... Will we be able to use aramith pro cup balls on the table? Does everything look alright with the table? It has lifetime waranty so it must be pretty good!

Thanks...

Why don't you get an oversized 8 (46x92). If your a good enough player to only demand a 9-foot table. Your not going to be happy with how a outdoor table plays.

How come? What would play badly with it?

$5400 for a table you can use only when it's not raining? Suggest you rethink the basement install with a smaller table like a 7 or 8 footer. Surely the chimney is not 30' long.

No, it is not 30' long, but there are two halves to the room, and the second half is higher up, so while it is okay for cueing both ways it can't be put in a place where the chimnie doesn't take effect. We just bought a 6 foot table in that room (a cheap non slate) measured up and it would be slightly worse with an eight foot table. I couldn't stand it... I need to use a 48' cue over 50% of the time now... Plus I am used to playing on 9 foot pool and 12 foot snooker tables... any thing less than 9 just feels like it's not a real table... as for the raining, I really don't mind. It barely rains where we live at all, and even if it were raining, I could still practice on the mini table inside. As for the price... To honest, that is not so bad for us. ALL American pool tables are so expensive over here in the UK (the Brunswick Metro we were going to buy costs over ?4000 -$8000!- and this table would be $6500 including shipping. The only thing that will stop us buying the table is if the playability is not good. Most outdoor tables are crap, yeah, but I think these ones are different? I don't know much about what makes a pool table play well, so could someone tell me if this one is a good one? Like I said before, I would sacrifice anything to get cueing space.

Thinking you won't get many opinions on any outdoor type tables here - well maybe from SD since he's in california, lol. In 10 years I've seen one in person at a show but never played on one. To find someone that has the table you want to get is the ticket to get an opinion.

Okay, thanks!

The sunbrella plays uncontrollably fast, its like another game. Also the tables don't aren't built with performance in mind as much as durability. I haven't seen a good playing outdoor table that I would recommend to anyone besides a beginner. Also, another factor is maintenance, some of these table require the slate bed to be sent to the factory to have it covered, I know Murrey is like this. If your concerned about a small table not being enough challenge for you or not a good practice table, order one with tight pockets. You can order Diamond table with three different pocket openings: beginners, amateur and Pro.

What I'll probably do is get the outdoor pool table and maybe in a year get a seven foot english pool table inside. I don't know I'm just set on getting an outdoor table... Plus I think it said on the site it has k66 rails (so that's good, right?)... I like the idea that the cloth is amazingly fast, it has good slate I think and I like it's looks...

Excuse my ignorance, but you are from the UK, and are going to buy an outdoor table? I was unaware that there was any part of the UK that was not cold and wet.

In the USA, I don't think they really market them outside of sunny climates. Not only is the cloth different, but the cushion rubber is also different, and they are expensive.

I hope you will have it under roof of some sort even if it is outside. But then, if you can put a roof up outside, you would be considering a standard table, I assume.

Can a small outbuilding be practical?

Or add a room to the house? The money spent is more than an outdoor table but it will add to the value of your home. You can get a used good quality indoor table for a small fraction of what that outdoor table costs. And maybe you can even get a nice 12 foot snooker table into that new room!

We have looked at it in the past but the biggest room we could have out there is about 10 by 20.
